If California Seceded...

*We'd have 2 fewer Democrat Senators, giving the GOP a 52-46 advantage
*Red states (defined as voting GOP for president the last 2 elections) would pick up 26 new House Seats and also 26 new points in the Electoral College
*Blue states (defined as voting DEM for president the last 2 elections) would pick up just 15 new House Seats and also just 15 new points in the Electoral College
*Purple states (splitting between DEM and GOP the last 2 eletions) would pick up 12 new House Seats and also 12 new points in the Electoral College
The Republicans would essentially net a +2 Senate advantage, and somewhere around a +11 House of Representatives advantage and also +11 advantage in the Electoral College
Is there anything we can all do to give this California secession movement a boost? Heck take Oregon and Washington with you.

Don't forget the 50+ electoral votes

It'd wreck the US economy.

Well not really. Those 53 would likely get divided out between the remaining 49 states. So 26 would go to Red states... 15 to Blue states... and 12 to "Purple" states
We'd net a minimum +11 new Electoral votes... and in an election like 2016, we'd net +23 compared to the ones Democrats would pick up.
We could also get rid of the 9th Circuit Court... a win for humanity.

They pay more than they receive. They would be solvent in a few years not having to pay fed taxes.

Nah,
Cut off I10, I40 and I15 and take Northern Cali away from them. Put a 100% tariff on anything Hollywood produces and allow them to use farm credits to pay for the tariff.
They would be our bitches in 30 days.

Perhaps but bill them anyway and use water as the leverage. Frick 'em. I'll be glad to watch the unicorn farms pop up left and right.

Just imagine how much money the government would spend on 49 star flags. They can't leave unless we have a replacement. Looking at you Rico.

Why do people keep bringing this up? It's not going to happen. Please stop.

Not if they quit receiving fed services they wouldn't. Totally on their own with no federal subsidies, they wouldn't last to the next blue moon.

Sanctuary state. Wall it off.

Long term maybe. Short term, it'd send the US economy into a depression most likely. You're taking away about 12% of the US GDP, and a state that contributes more to the US coffers than it takes. It would be ugly.

So you think they can get by on just the state taxes they have now?

They would raise taxes on all the tech industries and make the rich people pay their fair share. The rich would eventually leave but the businesses would likely stay.
