I assume this is all stuff ICE was doing before, it's just now with Trump in office it's reported as if it's an entirely new policy being implemented.

No they didn't. They started counting turnarounds at the border as deportations when that hadn't been done prior. It artificially inflated the numbers.

interesting... I hadn't heard that, though I had certainly heard the claim that they were deporting more than ever.
It sounds very believable (Obama after all) but do you have a link that verifies this?

Between 2009 and 2015 his administration has removed more than 2.5 million people through immigration orders, which doesn’t include the number of people who "self-deported" or were turned away and/or returned to their home country at the border by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

I am thinking one of the big planks for the dem platform in 2020 will be to bring MS13 back,since they seem so eager to belittle efforts to get rid of them.
