The only thing I understand less than her infatuation with this issue is how terrified some Americans are of BC.

No one is terrified of birth control.

Liberal women scream, "stay out of my womb." Fine! I'm sure they mean for me to keep my tax dollars out of there too.

I'll stay out of your womb. You stay out of my wallet. Sounds fair to me.

Fair enough, but lets not pretend like the opposition wasnt born out of the issue some have with BC itself and the supposed lifestyle it promotes.

I know of no conservatives who object to birth control.

The current Pope objects, but he is a socialist.

They probably do if the government is paying.

I know plenty of catholics who are against all forms of BC and plenty more non-catholics who are against the pill because of the slight risk of post-fertilization implantation issues.

Most people on this board took issue only with the fact that she feels it's our duty to pay for it. I don't think there are very many people here against birth control, and opposition in the general population is very low as well.

The only birth control the taxpayers should pay for is if Norplant is mandatory up until a certain age and you have to pass a qualifying test to get it removed.

You seem to be a relatively secular person to me, so it's surprising that those in your circle feel this way. Regardless, they're very much in the minority.

The majority of secular people in the south largely associate with theists. Its just statistically almost impossible to avoid, especially if you come from a religious family. Besides, its not like I actively avoid people who believe, I just dont care unless you're a dick about it

And your poll is of all christians nationwide. Id wager if the poll was just of southern christians, the percentages would be much different.

That also doesnt specify any form of BC. Most evangelicals dont oppose BC in principle, just certain forms.

Completely understandable, but you just so happen to hang with the small minority that is very anti-BC.

I won't speak for all Protestants, but I thought most BC was acceptable... Certainly pills, condoms, etc. I believe that Ms. Fluke spoke specifically of condoms and BC pills.

Like I said, a lot of christian oppose the pill but not condoms. The pill carries a risk of acting as an unintentional abortifacient by preventing implantation of the fertilized egg, so technically if you're gonna be completely consistent with the abortion issue one would have to be anti-pill.

Catholics are, in principle, the only ones against all BC as inherently immoral as far as I know.
