I like LSU's timing, get fully funded, TOPS funded and then raise tuition 5%.

You can't say they don't know when to say when,
quote:

The LSU Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to increase fees on students attending the flagship Baton Rouge campus by $270 per semester beginning in the fall semester.

In what amounts to a 5% hike on tuition and fees, the move is expected to raise some $14 million annually. Dan Layzell, LSU vice president for finance and administration, told board members the new revenue will fund pay raises and mandated cost increases. The increase is not covered by TOPS, meaning students—or parents—will come out of pocket to cover the cost.

Did you really think F. King was going to let a crisis go to waste? He's nothing but a pig at a trough.

Technically they raised the fees not tuition but I get what you're saying.

This is what happens when you artificially inflate demand with things like TOPS.

The amount of waste at an institution of their size is staggering.

Costs go up, tuition goes up. TOPS is great and all, but if you're that upset about $270 a semester then go to a cheaper school. Over 9 semesters thats still under $2,500. Any student that isn't disabled should easily be able to supplement $2,500 within a 4.5 year period with a part time job. LSU is a good school. Good schools have big expenses.

Option B: Get a small loan.

1. Everyone should go to college.

2. The government should subsidize college.

3. We should ignore basic economic laws.

4. ?????

5. Profit is evil.

tuition + fees for in state students has almost doubled since my first semester (fall 2011) to now. That's insane.

The government does subsidize college. I believe my degree was subsidized by about 35%. That's what a public university does.

Where did I say I was upset? I think its funny.

The same people who bemoan the loss of TOPSa nd how it might impact students, the same people who tell you higher education is facing a crisis get everything they asked for and then deliver the coup de gras!!!

They raise fees 5%.

FWIW, I graduated a long time ago, my tuition was less than 270 dollars, and my dad was very appreciative of that fact.

And yes LSU is a good school, but never forget its a govt. institution who loves to spend more and more of someone else's money.

I guess based on the subject and the first sentence, I felt like there was an implied tone of being upset. Typically when people discuss tuition hikes, they are doing so in a negative way.
