With the recent discovery of massive reserves of natural gas along with LNG and GTL technology I believe this pipeline is already obsolete. Im indifferent to this pipeline and I work in the petrochemical industry.

I think the jobs claims are for what the pipeline will bring in terms of additional capacity at the end points, thus creating jobs in those areas.
Not the jobs created temporarily while it's being built.

Umm Wat? No way you work in petroleum if you think LNG competes with crude.

I don't think he claimed that LNG competes with crude
He just doesn't think it's a big deal in the overall scheme of things
I also work in the petrochem industry and I'm pretty indifferent about it also.

He said LNG and gtl makes this pipeline obsolete. What does that mean to you?

I work in downstream chemicals and u are correct that I do not know much about petroleum. What I do know is that years ago many of the main ethylene producers started cracking natural gas to ethylene rather than using crude as feed stock. This trend is growing and now diesel, gasoline, and lube oils are made from natural gas instead of crude. I foresee the gradual scaling back of crude and ramping up of natural gas based derivatives. Eventually I think crude could be used in the same capacity as coal is today. I could be completely wrong so who knows?

And I'm indifferent to it as well but it's a huge black mark on our regulatory process. Business should be able to move forward with clarity. Why is this pipeline being denied approval? Just answer the question.

If I tried to sell a project that produced oil at >$100barrel I wouldn't get very far.

How many cattle are going to die due to increased rail shipments?
Posted on 11/18/14 at 9:25 pm to C
just playing devil's advocate ... ... the rail already exists, correct? ...
why should anyone's property - land, cattle, or whatever - be valued less than someone's job or million dollar bonus? ...

Not exactly. Significant upgrades are being made throughout the country to handle the increased rail traffic. Also significant sections of the pipeline are being built to de bottle neck some of the supply chain. This really has little to do with oil and pipelines and everything to do with politics of ignorance.

Agreed. And for my own selfish reasons, our company would benefit from Obama veto'ing it.
