I hope Trump shows up with a living man actually named Frederick Douglas at his next press conference and says, "Frederick Douglas everyone. You can all see how great of a man he is, such recognition."

No doubt @real would end up asking Freddy to cook him some of his delicious ribs, and Freddy would tell him to go frick himself.

What did he say that was wrong?

He obviously didn't know who Frederick Douglas was. He was given the name so he wouldn't forget to mention it - assuming that EVERYONE really knew enough about him to ad lib an appropriate remark.

Trump recited it with his usual - 'does awesome work' nonsense, just as though he were some budding entrepreneur.

Trump doesn't do history much. He should avoid any contact with it.

Is it outrage or incredulity?

Mostly incredulity - I was half-arse listening to him, but my ears perked when he said that. My mind raced with "what the fukc did he just say?" Then I laughed my arse off at his ignorance. I really expected more outrage over it, but it appears everyone is just getting numb to it.

We love our Fredrick Douglas's, don't we folks?

FD is the GOAT conservative. We should start a GoFundMe page and send John Lewis, Cory Booker & others associated with BCC a book about FD with a note that says "this is how you do it".

No. It was clear he had no idea who Frederick Douglass was other than some black person that might've had something to do with civil rights. You may as well just own it

OK. So explain to me why this should outrage me

Stop trying to understand. Stop trying to make excuses.

We don't need to worship Frederick Douglass.

Black history month is great for blacks, but we don't need to bend the knee for it. The more we pretend to care about that nonsense the worse off we will be.

I mean yeah. He probably should know who Douglas was.

But, I can't think of a single policy affecting even 1 American family that rides upon whether or not a president knows who Douglas was.

There has to be a reason for a five year old to "act out"?
