I don't get the outrage over Trump's Frederick Douglass comments

What did he say that was wrong?
Posted on 2/1/17 at 10:07 pm to DyeHardDylan
That Douglass was alive.
Posted on 2/1/17 at 10:09 pm to DyeHardDylan
He quite obviously had no idea who the frick Fredrick Douglass even is

The outrage is because it's just something Trump said. He could've made comments saying he's going to disperse his earnings to all the protestors and they'd be outraged over that as well.

We love our Fredrick Douglas's, don't we folks?

It just hit the ear wrong. Whatever, he's not an orator. It's not a story.

Really not up on it, but sure it's like all the past "outrage" absolutely nothing...oh just checked. Black history month...they get even more sensitive than usual. I am sick of angry black people. They will never be happy...ever.

He said nothing wrong. .... Just people making an issue with literally anything they can twist.

It's just the outrage du jour for the perpetually offended.
This will blow over by morning. Then tomorrow, he'll sneeze or something and they'll get pissed off all over again.

White people can't complement dead black people unless black people force them to and say it's ok.

Yeah. That was pretty obvious. He did say he is a good guy, really, really good guy, and getting more and more and more recognition.

Considering he had zero clue who the man was and talked as if he was alive and in the room... I'd say everything was wrong about what he said

He needs to have some preparation for these kinds of things. He sounds like an idiot when he makes it up as he goes along. Mostly he talked about himself, winning the election, the press is bad, and how Frederick Douglas will be getting more recognition for stuff he will be doing in the future.
One of the jobs of a president is doing these little presentations. If Trump doesn't want to spend five minutes preparing some intelligent remarks, he needs to hire some crack people to do it.

Is it outrage or incredulity? I haven't watched the news this evening, but I know which one I'm feeling. After another poster mentioned the Douglas bit, I laughingly called him an a-hole for posting satire as news.
I was mistaken.
I was mistaken.

This tiny bit that the media played was taken way out of context. The museum he was talking about had just opened a Frederick Douglass exhibition.

Hope Waters World asks a hundred black youth on the street, Who is/was Fredrick Douglas. I'll be surprised if ten percent know.

Well that makes Donald's ignorance look so much better
