It's not terribly important that "everyone respects NAP". A great many people don't respect society's proscription against murder, yet we find a way to lock them in cages, regardless.

But yeah, I'm a minarchist, so defending anarchism is more of a pastime than anything

how would the CDC handle an epidemic?

poorly I would assume by watching the news of what's going on

Aggression can just as often be misperception, in my experience.

Your scenario posted above would work, but I'm afraid it requires too much perfect information.

Thanks for the discussion.

A private disease control center wouldn't even break eve, let alone profit. It would be non-existent in ancapistan.

What you just said translates as "free individuals would not prioritize research in, and containment of, highly infectious deadly diseases and would therefore not fund such an endeavor in a manner in which it would properly and adequately function."

Talk about a hypothetical in which people aren't acting like people...

I am a card-carrying libertarian. I am not an anarchist. My rights stop where yours begin and vice versa. In the absence of the CDC, you don't think a private organization, or multiple private organizations, would spring up to replace it, and be more accountable, efficient, and effective as a result? There would probably be some sort of insurance that helps fund such an organization that gives those paying access to treatment. There would likely be multiple such organizations, each competing to prove they are each the best at disease control in the hopes of getting the most subscribers. Free market solution.

Transhuman libertarians won't have to deal with silly things like disease and pandemic.

I agree, this is a weak area for the libertarians. Anytime "big government" is actually needed the libertarian ldeology runs into this problem.

This. Libertarian arguments for disasters are laughable sometimes. I wonder when they think the government SHOULD step in? Zombie uprising? Alien invasion?

It's (naive) ideology refusing to reconcile itself with reality.

What government? I don't want any roads, man.
