How will erasing the past make the future brighter?

I'm all for helping other group's situations improve, because I believe that a rising tide raises all boats. However, even after all of the polarizing statues are gone, we will still have income inequalities, education inequalities, violent crime inequalities, and the host of other issues which progressives like to harp on.

How does shielding the past to make people feel better help the future?

If one controls the narrative of the past, it is more easy to control the narrative of the future.

Hard Left is where the USA is going over the course of the next 100 years. Trump wants to retard or stop it, but, notice how The Globalist Establishment and UniParty are fighting him on it.

I still have yet to hear one intelligent argument for how removing a statue erases history.

I'll ignore the softball "retard" reference and say that if Trump wants to stop it, he needs to shame those who are abusing the Confederate flag by using it to underpin their message of hate.

How does removing a statue erase history? Should we erect Hitler statues so no one forgets the holocaust?

Like everything with the liberals, they place a much higher value on symbolism than substance. They literally are the absolute worst thing to ever plague this country.

Statues are built to glorify their subjects. The subjects in question working to enslave a race of people. The decedents of those enslaved now have to pass said monument of glorification on public land. This isn't hard.

Put the statues in museums that way you can go to reflect and yearn for an alternate universe in which the south won......on your own dime and by your own choice while others, who would rather your heroes not be celebrated on public land do not have to see them.

Problem solved.

It's not necessarily just about the confederate statues. These loons are already talking about removing Founding father statues as well. It's a slippery slope. Then what? We'll start burning "offensive books"? Maybe ridding of the constitution too because it was written by racists.

It's about the big picture.

This isn't about the confederate statues, just as open borders isn't for compassion. It's about moving towards a progressive utopia, always.

It doesn't unless you buy every idiotic thing that comes out of Trump's mouth.

All one has to do is witness the abject failure of Germany's attempt to sanitize history post WW2, which led to the rise of right and left wing violent extremism of the 1960's & 70's.

If you never learn from the history of your mistakes, your guaranteed to repeat those mistakes over and over.

no. the statues have become a symbol of hate, thanks to abuse of the Confederate flag. Symbols of hate should come down.

It's really not a slippery slope.

For all of those complaining about Washington/founding father statues pushed for removal, you can blame Trump. He's the one that brought it up in the press conference.
