How old were you when you first really got interested in politics and public policy?

I’m not talking about the rah-rah go team go aspect you probably picked up from your parents in elementary school.

What I mean is: when did you first really start to read up on what it meant to be a repub/dem/lib/con

When did you really first start to study swing states, congress, law drafting, etc

Late middle school, high school, college?

I know the majority of Americans know as much as a 4th grader on this stuff, but this board is obviously politically-active, so just curious

Did your parents give you a lot of political knowledge like how congress and cabinet worked, things like that?

I was interested and had voted before, but that's when I really dove in.

2016

I missed 2008 election by 1 month (age)
Didn't vote in 2010 midterms
Didn't vote in 2012 election
Didn't vote in 2014 midterms

2015 was eye opening for me seeing the establishment vs an outsider

Finally voted in 2016

High school Senior in 1981-82. In Texas, that is the grade in which Civics is taught, and I found it interesting. When I got to TAMU the next year, I immediately joined a couple of political groups.

First round - probably 11ish which coincided with the Edwards-Duke election.

Second round - 14 as the 1994 midterms happened

Third round - 24 as the RatherGate saga hit and it became increasingly obvious how much of the media’s stuff was just completely made up bullshite

I knew the left was nuts when I was about 12. I first started picking up Time and Newsweek in the dentist office and reading the editorials. This was in 1985.

When I was in my late 20's in law school and Obama was running for his first term as far as really keeping up with it. I guess when I really learned the repub/dem/lib/con was in high school in my teens, probably as a freshman for Clinton/Dole election

9th grade. Joined the debate team and got heavily into counter research. Sometimes called evidence critique. I quickly learned that most of what is printed in official documents is false.

I was raised conservative.
At 18 I just knew to vote R.

To be honest, DJT and the 2016 election, along with this board, got me really into politics. Since then, I have followed it daily. (I am under 30 y/o)

I was just out of college before I gave any serious attention to the 'politics' side of politics. Was just interested in the civics portion prior to that.

First deep involvement/attention was 1960 debates with JFK/RMN - I thought Nixon won, but our TV was so grainy that I dint even notice the 'makeup' chasm between him and JFK.

Of course I had been quite satisfied with Eisenhower as our POTUS and since I was a complete novice in the mechanizations going on behind the scenes, I was in hero-worship mode more than pure analytical mode.

As I devoted more time to the News, I formed the opinion that Republicans always made a lot more sense than the Democrats. Although at that time I felt that both parties were honest and patriotic in their basic values. That thought didn't really change until I began to digest the disaster for our nation that evolved as a result of LBJ. The corruption of the Clinton administration sealed the deal for me - forever after I have been more anti-democrat than I have been pro-republican.

20. Changed my major to PoliSci IR.

I’ve always been a registered Democrat but I didn’t get interested in domestic politics until later.

Just out of college when Jimmy Carter’s policies were so awful! Then came Ronald Reagan who inspired patriotism and conservatism with his brand of politics!!

2007 or 8 25 or 26. Heard Ron Paul talk and a few things he said struck a chord. Went on a 4 year deep dive reading his books and watching every single video of him on YouTube. I have a great understanding of liberty that I had no clue about before

I was 25 when I read The Anatomy of The State by Murray Rothbard.

Ever since then I have gotten further and further away from supporting government in almost any capacity.
