You'd have to define "successful".
At the time of the 1st Crusade, Muslim civilization was often more advanced than its European counterpart. But as Islam later became a drag on it's citizens, Europeans would have overthrown it, or dramatically changed it.

Impossible to answer the OP with anything other than a wild guess. Its possible that after a overthrow of a Islamic controlled Europe that society would be farther along than it was before the renaissance thus aiding the speed of advancement. Perhaps a Islamic defeat of Italy forever destroys a European renaissance.

I'll just continue to thank Chuck for leading the way in giving Islam the boot.
