So approximately 10 years of free housing and the residents can’t afford to move out? Just continue to live amongst mold etc.?

Can you get sued for giving someone a house? I’m assuming there were no funds that exchanged hands by the new owners. But to be fair I didn’t read the article.

i didnt read this article because this stuff isnt new news.

but one of the complaints from before was about termites. But the guy never retreated the home for termites, then blamed other people for having termites.

Why did this guy think his situation was any different?

quote:

Preventative termite treatments are necessary to maintain the structural integrity of your home. Annually in the U.S., termites damage approximately 600,000 houses, and U.S. residents spend an estimated $5 billion to control and repair termite damage.

The appropriate definition of the term "Architect" is "One who designs monuments to themselves".

They couldn't afford the maintenance which Pitt didn't bother thinking of.

A lot of the designs were probably not intended for such wet climates.

OTOH, the quality of individuals put in those houses likely didn’t do ANY maintenance at all.

Maybe he overachieved in this case?

I’m sure this enough blame to go around.

That’s what happens when a dumb movie star thinks because he read a bunch of Architectural Digest or maybe even played an architect in a movie, that, that makes him an expert!

This has nothing to do with the upkeep and everything to do with the design and build of the units!!

Pitt had good intentions but poor execution! I believe he himself helped “designed” some of them! Jee, I wondered which ones?!

Such BS

He probably had good intentions but they are still trying to "make it right". The warranty company got pretty well fricked and they have done several things to fix issues but I don't think they've gotten to all of them yet.

They also used a lot of exposed non-treated wood. We have high humidity but I'd think that's a bad idea no matter where you build.

Should have taken God's lead and not rebuilt anything in the destroyed ninth ward. They could have bulldozed every building and made it a giant retention pond.

yes it was extensively documented that none of them did any maint at all and a lot of the complaints were for shite like green mold on the outside of the house that a simple scrubbing with bleach would remove as well as other complaints that go back to simple remedies like caulking and painting would fix.

these ungrateful trash literally moved into brand new houses and trashed them, then did nothing to keep them clean or maintain it, then now want to sue to get money and another free brand new house so they can in turn trash that place and sue whoever built it.

who knew if you give something nice to trash they will trash it and then be ungrateful about it and sue you for giving it to them

only a liberal could be that naive

Good intentions rarely lead to good results. Pitt should be suing the shite out of the contractors if even half the stuff stated in this thread are true.

Wonder out of the 6 or so that are shut in, how many of those are now crack houses or drug dens?

What's that saying?

It's "Let no good deed go unpunished."

Sounds to me like Pitt's heart, intentions, and fundraising efforts were in the right place... but he got screwed over by either corrupt or incompetent designers and builders. And now PITT is the one facing personal liability.

Just another reason to leave it at donating a few cans of beans and a box of diapers to the local Food Bank. Otherwise, give your money to St. Jude's, a pro-Life org, or some org that supports fatherhood in homes.
