Houthi missile got close to destroyer - last line of defense used

I’ve been saying that if they fire enough at the US Navy - odds are something will get through eventually.
Within a mile. that’s gotta be a few seconds before they impact.
Biden is putting our military at risk due to weakness. Do we have to lose a destroyer before he doesn’t something?

I’m supposed to believe the Chinese couldn’t wipe out a surface fleet near Taiwan with a missile and drone storm when pirates living in mud huts shooting old gen missiles are getting to our last line of defense?

I don’t think you’d ever have a single destroyer in that situation.
A strike group has F35 over the horizon targeting capabilities and a massive arsenal.
That a single destroyer is able to swat down missiles is impressive. But I don’t think it’s anything like what we’d deploy in a pacific confrontation with China.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this one got closer because Iran is adjusting to the Destroyers defense.
So they are potentially flying them lower in calm seas to avoid long range detection.
So Bidens weakness is effectively a testing ground for our biggest enemies.

You can also blame the other countries for sitting on their asses doing nothing yet are benefiting from those shipping lanes.

Certainly would agree. There is no doubt that China is watching closely either.
Our Navy is obviously incredibly capable and is both the best and most experienced in the world....however I don't know that there is any doubt that the Navy is designed to fight yesterday's war.

If Russia was doing that, we would be in a formal state of war and the gloves would be off.
Bombing the hell out of dirt that has already been bombed by the Saudis and Emiratis for the past decade isn't going to make them go away. And there is no appetite for invading and occupying western Yemen.

The War Zone has several good article discussing this and the Navy in general.
One thing to be concerned about is how much inventory this "little" skirmish is burning through and how will the ships be replenished given supply constraints - similar to what is happening on the land-based side due to Ukraine.
A much larger dust-up will leave our capable ships with empty magazines.

We have at least 3 arleigh-burkes with the ODIN laser for just this sort of drone/missile threat. I’d imagine they have 2-3 more with who know which are deployed where. The drone/missile swarm threat will diminish greatly in the coming years.
I doubt that China and Russia have hypersonic missiles that can hit moving targets. The plasma isn’t all that great for guidance systems.
