New Sugar deal negotiated with Mexico is a very good one for both Mexico and the U.S. Had no deal for many years which hurt U.S. badly.

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE BOYS!

Eta he pulls this off and I'd re-elect him on this alone!

Is this going to be like the sugar deal that ruins cane farmers in the US?

Those bottles of Mexican coca-cola I get at the Piggly Wiggly are far superior.

I noticed not long along that the gas station close to my house sells Mexican cokes made with real sugar. I've been hitting that place up quite often since then. Can't beat a Coke made with real sugar!

who would have thought sugar pressed from sugarcane would taste better than syrup squeezed out of corn?

Sugar has been a prime example of crony capitalism at the expense of the American consumer. We pay nearly triple what other countries pay. That has propped up an unsustainable sugar industry in the US and has resulted in widespread use of corn syrup that has likely destroyed the health of many.

big sugar in this country is corrupt as hell (see the studies they paid scientists to blame fat for heart disease when they knew it was sugar).

this is a VERY interesting development.

Sadly, the studies about processed sugar are making it look like corn syrup is probably healthier even though it isn't likely healthy. Sugar is no bueno for the heart.

How do you come to this conclusion?

quote:

The agreement struck Tuesday keeps the 2014 agreements in place but lowers the percentage of refined sugar Mexico can send to the United States to 30 percent of its exports, from 53 percent. It also lowers the level of purity at which Mexican sugar can be sold as refined sugar.

LINK

Lower supply will only allow cane sugar prices to remain relatively higher than corn sugar (high fructose corn syrup), thus forcing Coke to continue to use the cheaper sweetener (high fructose corn syrup) in U.S. markets.

Considering every deal Trump has made since he's been in office has been about putting the American worker first, i'd say, no, not at all.

You do realize that starches are convertible to sugars, don't you? And they aren't squeezing corn to get sugar.

According to the NYT's article (where they actually did some real reporting) the deal will lower the supply of sugar from Mexico from 53% of all Mexican imports to 30%.

That will keep U.S. sugar prices high (good for U.S. sugar refiners especially in Florida, Louisiana and Hawaii) and good for high fructose corn syrup producers in the Midwest (corn farmers).

They put hydrocodone in some cough syrups. I just watched a video on OBESE AMERICA. We are obese because of garbage put in grocers foods that is banned in other countries. So the fresh markets make bank.
