Also giving the Secretary of Wildlife and Fisheries a $10k raise and a car.
Wildlife and Fisheries
old:$139,753; $0
new:$150,000; assigned a vehicle

I know Gray though and he is a badass. Will do an awesome job. Even with that increase, he's likely taking a big pay cut. He will fix a lot of the damage in that department the previous administration did.

One issue in many parishes is that they've done a great job of upping salary for new teachers, but they've done a piss poor job of doing anything for experienced teachers. It is why many good educators leave the classroom either for another job out of the education field, or move up within their district.

The largest salary bump would go to Tyler Gray, secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, who previously ran one of the state’s largest oil and gas lobby organizations. His annual pay would go from $139,734 to $200,000 — an increase of more than $60,000
Rinse & repeat. This state is the real swamp and will never flourish.

This happens in many fields, but I don't see this educator migration you speak of. Furthermore, there is <$7000 difference (before taxes) in median pay. I can't see many people uprooting for that.
Many of the finest educators I know teach in private school for less money . Why do you think that is?

Charter schools are coming in and poaching the public school teachers. These outside corporations that are running these schools can pay more.
There’s a company out of Colorado that is taking over the old Brookstown Middle and turning it into a charter school. They were offering $70k for teachers, which given the location and students you’ll deal with isn’t nearly enough, but I’m sure they got some bites.

Was coming to post almost exactly this. I get this one.
The corrections secretary? Who served in that position under JBE and Jindal and Blanco? Why?
A car allowance for ALL cabinet members? Why?
It is too early to judge (we haven't even started the regular session), but so far, he is proving the axiom true that Republicans love cutting the government when a Democrat is in charge, but when they are in charge, they also love to spend, but just on different stuff.
But again, let's all hold judgment for another 4 months.

Bet you love it when there are no teachers left because they all quit the profession.

Nah, teachers know this and that's why it is one of the noblest career choices. But, eventually some get to a point where money matters and it's either work an extra job, suffer, or quit.

Teacher candidates and current employees are indeed leaving the state for Texas if they can afford it. That $7,000/yr raise they get makes a massive difference when the cost of living is identical. SPED teachers in Texas get additional compensation for their field. Meanwhile, Louisiana teachers got a one time stipend that lawmakers argued over for months because the permanent raise Edwards originally wanted would have made him too popular.
Those teachers in private schools are either supplementing their family income by teaching or retired from the public system. There is no one there, except head football coaches and principals, who can live comfortably on a private school teaching salary regardless of how much better the environment might be.

Stop simping for teachers. They should NEVER receive a raise until they disband their public sector unions. Do that and I'd be understanding of giving them raises.

Why? If you want quality people, you have to pay them.

Heaven forbid anyone advocates for fair pay and quality working conditions. Unions are the reason public school teachers still exist.

“Fair pay”??
WTF
FTR teachers in St Charles Parish start out at $60k and I don’t believe they are the highest.
I actually think Jefferson pays more.
