re: Google celebrates Easter with…Cesar Chavez birthday tribute

Well, we've reached the height of silliness and faux outrage pretty early in the morning (at least I hope it's faux, because if it's real people need some counseling or medication).

And some people think Google did it on purpose just to offend Christians? Do you realize how insane that sounds?

Was it really though? Google got a huge chunk of people on the internet to discuss their business, as opposed to just going on living their lives.

Yeah, since the majority of their largest markets celebrate Easter in some capacity, I'd say it was. I doubt many atheists would boycott over an Easter egg or something along those lines. It's all about finding common ground as a business decision. I can't fathom how Cesar Chavez's image is the better move. Christians are fast to boycott, and are pretty organized when they do.

I'd have to say it was a conscious decision to choose an image of Chavez over an Easter theme. So it was intentional in some capacity. So all things considered, I wouldn't term it as insane.

just trying to be politically correct don't want to piss off atheists by putting a religious holiday on their website.

I don't believe atheists have ever boycotted an Easter egg or Easter Bunny ..

But I agree in some capacity - an image of Jesus would have caused more backlash than Chavez. Just seems eggs and bunnies would have been neutral?

Now *this* is the kind of persecution Paul wrote about. The outrage has spilled over to my facebook. This image was shared and liked by a friend. Some of the comments on this photo are worth the read. LINK

Yeah, it's hard to say who looks sillier here. Those pretending to be shocked and outraged or those pretending anything a 260 billion dollar multi-national corporation chooses to put forth as its corporate image is anything but EXTREMELY conscious, thought out, and calculated.

Interesting quote from Wikipedia:

quote:

The UFW during Chavez's tenure was committed to restricting immigration...Their opposition stemmed from their belief that the program undermined U.S. workers and exploited the migrant workers.

No doubt. But was it calculated to offend Christians? Really?

Yep, I had already dropped Google search in favor of Bing (Bing is just better) but as of today I have officially switched to the latest version of Internet Explorer as my browser. I don't care that Google doesn't acknowledge Easter but to celebrate fricking Hugo Chavez instead is an abomination.

Google can and should do whatever the frick they want with their own business.

Telling them they should post something Eastery sounds very statist to me. "There are tons of Christians. Bow to your constituency!"

frick that. Do what you want, Google.

Love when liberals try to turn the statist argument around but end up looking stupid. No one is arguing that Google should be forced to do anything. Its not statist at all to find a different place to do your business because you dont agree with their religious or political views. That is capitalism at its core
