Germany needs to step up to the plate RE: Ukraine

Say Germany mobilizes, WWPD?
There are parallels drawn between the Sudentenland and Crimea and concern over similar rationalizations in the Baltic states. Historically, Russia has been attcked from Western Europe. Who else is in the position Germany is to apply threat of immediate force against these incursions?
Do the Germans just get to sit on the sidelines, enjoying their security provided for them, all because they tried to take over the world 75 years ago?

no, actually Poland and Romania need to step up

The first one that needs to step up is the Ukraine. They need to step up like the original colonies of the US.
I think they can kiss the Crimea goodbye. There aren't many Ukrainians in the Crimea.

No, seriously...
I think it's about time we re-evaluate our security agreements with Germany. They are the powerhose of the EU, and this is their backyard, not ours.
I keep seeing references to some sort of theoretical armed conflict between the US and Russia, but that's absurd. As a matter of fact, I feel that our participation in NATO is absurd. It's time for the EU to go ahead and take care of their security themselves. And look to their borders and see what's going on and how it affects them. If it's cool with them, what business is it of ours?
You think Germany making some sort of noise wouldn't get Putin's attention?

But where does it stop?

Russia taking Crimea reminds me so much of Germany taking Sudetenland right before WW2

It'd set a bad precedent if that happens. I can hardly believe the world is standing by letting this happen.

Europeans won't be very comfortable when the German war machine revs up again.

The French and the British wouldn't sweat it because they've nuked up since WWII.

Neither would Putin.
I think our role in NATO should be purely the nuclear option. If one of our partners got nuked, we would nuke back. All army personnel should be stateside.

This...pretty disturbing story on CNN's website (I know I know they suck) regarding the crushing of the media there now. The Russians are shutting everything down that isn't pro-russian. Threatening journalists...etc. That is right from Adolf's early play book.

This is a joke. Right.
From the days of Katherine the Great to Nikita Kruschev the Crimea was a part of Russia. If the majority of Crimeans want to be a part of Russia then I think they should be. Anyone that doesn't like it can move.

The spot next to Crimea on the Risk Board is the Black Sea. That ain't no stinkin country.

Your right. Everyone ones needs to just chill out. Let's not be hypocritical.
What if the US had their primary naval base to control the Gulf of Mexico in Puerto Rico under similar circumstances. We would do the exact same thing. Most of the Crimeans are Russians any way.
Russia has to control the Black Sea. The Black Sea is the back door into central Russia.

That reminds me of the old, if Russia invaded Turkey from the rear, would Greece help?

I think Stalingrad probably taught the Germans to lay off fighting the Russians for a while.
