quote:Good question.
How much are we subsidizing the oil industry this year?
Exxon paid $31 Billion incorporate tax last year
Chevron paid $20.0 billion
ConocoPhillips paid $7.9 billion
Those were the 1st, 2nd, and 6th highest taxed companies in the country last year.
By comparison for example, Walmart paid about 1/4th Exxon's total, albeit on 10% higher revenue.

In arguably the most "artistic" time in the history of man, the Renaissance, there was no Endowment for the Arts. Yet more creativity, art, music, science, and philosophy came from that era than any before, and possibly after.
HOW DID THEY DO THAT WITHOUT GOVERNMENT MONEY?????
In Italy, they had the patronage of the church (Michelangelo) and of private citizens like the Medicis and the Borgias (Da Vinci).

Talented artists can actually sell their work.

Haha. Wow. I bet you have those "live, love, laugh" prints on your wall.
The art from there is all mass produced and made in China or Mexico. Including the prints.

patronage

It's been around since the 60s. It's a failed govt experiment at this point. Art will continue to be produced, it's quality, accessibility and appeal to the average person will improve.
