Police Were Called Off When Violence Started – They Said, “We’re Leaving. It’s Too Dangerous”
quote:
Doug McKelway: We are now beginning to hear criticism bubble up on all sides of this event about the initial slow response by the police. When I got out of my car yesterday in Charlottesville about 10:30 in the morning you knew this was a bad scene and bad things were going to be happening because people were congregating at Lee Park and Emancipation Park wearing helmets, body armor, carrying big heavy sticks. Nobody was intent on peace here from either side. People were intent on causing havoc and causing damage. And even as wounded were being brought out of the park police were sitting idly by. I was standing off a cordoned off area where the police had set up as a staging area, the state police, and they said you can come in here this is a safe area. But when the tear gas started to fly, thrown by protesters, the police themselves began to evacuate then. I asked the guy who was in charge, “Where you going?” He said, “We’re leaving. It’s too dangerous.” They had a chance to nip this thing in the bud and they chose not to.

Why did the police break up the unite the right rally in the first place when they had a permit?
The police should have broken up the far-left counter protester who showed up without a permit for the sole purpose of causing trouble.

They should have stopped the ANTIFA buses before they ever got there, and kept those that got through separated from the right wing group .
They never intended to.
We already know ANTIFA and others are coming to Berkeley to raise hell again..will the cops stand down?

It'll be funny to watch how many people who don't believe in the first amendment attack this completely rational post

I made an entire thread about the permit issue earlier

I don't blame them. I say just let these people go at it. In fact, they should just set up a thunder dome and last man standing gets to do what he pleases with the statue.

And now the mayor is blaming Trump for this.
Coincidence?
Nah.
Fits the pattern.

I love how this board is deflecting the actions of a terrorist by making it a permit issue
Posted on 8/13/17 at 4:01 pm to MButterfly
I wonder if the pandering Mayor had anything to do with this?

Here is the thing: Regardless of how much one disagrees with the White Supremacists, they have the right to peacefully assemble and followed the correct legal parameters to do so.
If they were prepared to go hard anticipating that ANTIFA would likely show up, they were proven to be right.
It was ANTIFA that caused this.

Use your brain. The terrorist doesn't get to the protestors if the police were doing their job. Watch the video in my OP on the first page. There were no police or paramedics around when Fields rammed the protestors with his car.
Also...had these protestors had a permit to march, there would have been roadblocks set up, thus making it impossible for Fields to do what he did.
While Fields is the true villain of the story, blame must be pushed onto the Charlottesville police and the city of Charlottesville as well. Had they been doing their jobs, that woman would still be alive today.

I didn't know a police officers job was to jump in front of speeding vehicles. Thanks for clearing that up

No he stated ANTIFA is part of the blame due to their interference (without a permit) into the racist rally. Yes, you are lying.
