On what O'Reilly said I think he is right. The Upper Echelons of the GOP don't "get" black people and are more afraid of the bad pup that comes out of it than doing something about it.

I think GWB understood that and tried to get some headway by talking about the "soft bigotry of low expectations" which is a very real thing. He got clobbered for his efforts/

Strategically I think it is a huge mistake for the GOP if they could get to 20%+ of the AA vote it would kill the Dems.

I just watched a reasonable discussion between two people that should happen more. It sure was better than some of the material I've seen from race-baiters & racist in today's world. Both racist and race-baiters are serious roadblocks to us all continually moving forward.

Racism comes in all different colors these days
It seems hate knows no color......

No, republicans are scared that courting the black vote will scare off the white Christian bloc that is a strong hold of their constituency.

its really that simple. They fear white flight

O'Reilly stated that "white privilege" had nothing to do with the struggles of African Americans communities, rather blaming the “disintegration” of individual black families for their own problems.

You mean the black community is responsible for their own problems.

The nerve of O'Reilly.

Right.

He's afraid of black people. So are most of the rest of the Republican party.

We already knew that.

Why should blacks vote for a party that is so out of touch with them.

How can you want to effectively represent them without getting to know the base?

I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that what Black Americans want from the GOP are probably things that the GOP fundamentally opposes.

And no, before you say "equal rights," I'm talking about dropping opposition to affirmative action, dropping plans to curb entitlement spending, etc.
