I honestly don't know. I haven't been flipping around. I just caught about an hour and a half of Fox News this morning. 30 minute at home on the TV and one hour in the car on satellite radio. I learned nothing about the Ukraine/Russian relationship and that location is probably a treasure trove of history. I was just expecting the cliffs and I never got them. :disappoint:

It sounds like FOX is being FOX. As Dennis Green would say, "they are who you thought they were".
So far CNN has had the most insightful discussions on this matter. Last night Wolf Blitzer had on Stephen Cohen and Fareed Zakaria to discuss Ukraine. I wish the other networks had a show that was devoted 100% to foreign policy like Zakaria's show.
I wonder what would have been the FOX narrative if they had been around in 1956 when the Soviets invaded Hungary and Ike did nothing.

well most people's opinion is going to be colored by their own views (conservatives think MSNBC is the worst, liberals think Fox is the worst) so I just lump them together. I think rational people on both sides can admit that both are not news organizations but propaganda machines.

Fox's Raison d'être is to focus on stories EVERY OTHER NEWS ORGANIZATION WON'T COVER, from a Culturally Right perspective, as a full participant in The Culture Wars. They cover some stories better than others, and some stories worse than others. Their IRS and Benghazi coverage has been excellent. Their International coverage is generally atrocious outside of Israel/West Bank/Gaza type stuff, and they trot out some of the worst analysts ever (and some of the best reporters). Ralph Peters should be beaten with a bag of hammers and whose idea was it to give Huckabee a bass?
Fox will focus on Administration fecklessness. MSNBC will focus on Fox's focus on Administration fecklessness and CNN will switch wildly from Oscar Pastorious to Anthony Bourdain to race-baiting.

That is pretty bad, because the situation is far more complex than Fox portrays. Maybe they really do think they're playing the same game as MSNBC.

Now is the time to put the Generals in the green room and bring out the PHD's. Educate your audience a bit. More history and less military bluster.
I took 4 graduate level Russian History courses (12 hours) at LSU as electives as an undergrad (for fun by the permission of the dept) and I don't REALLY know shite about what's going on.

That's an interesting way of looking at it, but I always hate to have to learn my lessons the hard way, I prefer to learn them the easy way.

Honestly, I don't know if anyone is sure one way or the other. It's a divided region.

All I'm asking is for a high school intern to get on air with a map and point out, this is the Ukraine. This is Russia. This is Crimea. Crimeians (sp) are mostly Russian Orthodox and rest of the Ukraine are Muslim. They generally hate each other thus the Crimeian people align culturally with Putin and the Russians. In terms of energy infrastructure (point to a map) several natural gas and oil pipelines traverse Crimea and are critical to eastern Europe. Thus Russia has a major interest in Crimeian energy infrastructure in order to get their natural gas and oil to market.
Just simple stuff like that is expected.
