They should fear being deported for being here illegally. Are you saying that we should allow people to enter our country illegally in case they witness a crime, so they can be a witness?
That's......that's.....wow.

Maybe we should not arrest cocaine dealers, because they should not fear arrest in case they witness a murder and need to become a witness?
The circular logic in your argument is mind blowing.

You realize that if they were not here illegally, they would not have to fear being deported, or witnessing a crime, right?

Because it isn't about sanctuary or promoting illegals. It is about the feds requiring local police resources and local jail resources to be used free of charge to do federal immigration policing.

You realize the reason the feds would be there to pick them up, is because they are in jail for committing a crime already, right?
quote:

What you don't realize is that the feds want local police forces, which are already underfunded and understaffed, to use their forces to detain people on immigration holds, when they don't have enough jail space for local criminals.

No they don't. They want the locals to notify the feds when they arrest an illegal alien and hold them for the feds to pick them up. The illegals are in jail on other charges...not immigration charges.
quote:

The Republicans are using scare tactics about illegals being criminals because they are illegals to try to bring down right wing rage to force local police forces to devote limited resources to being immigration cops.

Again. They are illegals already. they broke the law by being here. Then, the local police have picked them up for breaking ANOTHER law.

There. That's a valid reason not to do it.

So every other city in the United States can afford it except for the liberal cities? Sounds to me like the liberals are running their cities poorly.

San Francisco has an anonymous tip line, and they are a sanctuary city.

So the law is having a hard time finding witnesses to organized crime or murder and makes it safe for illegals to come forward. How is that a misuse of anything?

Just a guess from you. How many illegal aliens do you think have come forward to be a witness against organized crime. I mean...out of 30 million, how many?

Why are you in favor of sanctuary cities?

The only reason is that republicans are against them.

You start thread telling people to provide you with info about a thing you dont understand.

There is only one person in this thread that doesn't understand the subject matter. (and I think you understand it, and just lying about it.)

Your citing of '61 police chiefs' having an opinion agreeable with you is worthless information. Police chiefs serve at the pleasure of the mayor and city council = all DEMs in these shitholes. They are hired mouthpieces, Their major job is to keep the precincts lined up in the DEM column and to look the other way when the lines are full of illegal aliens.

For example

If a neighbor who is an undocumented immigrant, witnesses domestic violence, she is more likely to report the violence to the police or be a witness in a judicial proceeding if there is no threat that she'll be deported because of her participation

This is the most asinine and illogical argument I've ever heard.

It's like saying, I'll let this homeless guy live in my backyard, feed him, clothe him, and shelter him, because there is a little tiny miniscule chance he could alert me of a burglar.

Why should some idiot in a different place get to have a say about local metropolitan issues?

You don't have a say because you don't live in a sanctuary city. Your opinion is irrelevant, and I don't feel the need to persuade you.

How's that answer?

How's that answer? Ridiculous.

Dude, we have FEDERAL LAWS against illegal immigration. I'm not a lawyer, but I dare anybody to tell me that a local jurisdiction can adopt laws that run contrary to federal law on this. No way San Francisco, for example, can supersede these federal laws.
