but some other lib on here was saying the Republicans started this sort of thing in the 90's
They obviously were not old enough to see the bullshite slung against Reagan. They should ask a liberal about Reagan and they will get the same bug-eyed frothing mouth reaction.

The media laugh at any attempt to compare President Trump to former President Ronald Reagan, but there are many similarities, not the least of which are the withering attacks both men endured before and after they sought the presidency.
The extraordinary assaults by media, celebrities and jealous politicians against Trump have been unending. Their attacks include questioning his mental health, repeatedly comparing him to Hitler, declaring him a fascist, insisting he’s a modern-day Manchurian candidate, that he’s a traitor (because Russians!), and on and on.
The striking thing about the nature of the attacks is that they’re all personal. They are accusations meant to instill in the listener a sense of danger, provoking an existential fear of the president of the United States.
Now why would someone want to do that? And what could possibly be the result of creating that toxic environment?
Reagan withstood similar vitriol by the same and usual suspects. The Sun newspaper quoted author Steven Hayward’s recollection of the rhetoric against Reagan: “Democratic Rep. William Clay of Missouri charged that Reagan was “trying to replace the Bill of Rights with fascist precepts lifted verbatim from Mein Kampf.”
Los Angeles Times cartoonist Paul Conrad drew a panel depicting Reagan plotting a fascist putsch in a darkened Munich beer hall. Harry Stein (later a conservative convert) wrote in Esquire that the voters who supported Reagan were like the “good Germans” in “Hitler’s Germany,” The Sun reported.
After being attacked relentlessly by fellow Republicans during the campaign, Hollywood making their condemnation known, and the media working overtime to demonize Reagan, it shouldn’t be surprising that, within 90 days of his taking the oath of office, the president was shot by a lunatic.

Remember...Reagan was shot -because the MSM demonized him- The same thing but in a different context- the MSM are doing before our eyes, with Trump.
Watch the movie- Killing Reagan Many who were alive during this time frame are shocked at how close to death Reagan was. In real time-- I recall thinking it was not serious he was grazed.

Reagan was shot by a certified lunatic who was trying to impress Jodie Foster. Guy spent the next 30 yaers of his life in a psychiatric hospital.
The gunshot punctured his lung. He wasn't anywhere close to death.
And truth be told, Reagan should have been impeached over the Iran-Contra deal. Congress was afraid a second impeachment within 15 years of each other would damage the republic beyond repair.

Yes, he was shot by a loon that was fixated on Jodie Foster; but then became fixated on President Reagan because of the media and Hollywood demonizing President Reagan, he thought he could impress Jodie Foster.
You really need to watch the movie-Killing Reagan- because he was closer to death than anyone knew watching in real time.

The now-freed John Hinckley believed murdering Reagan would impress actress Jodie Foster. “I will admit to you that the reason I’m going ahead with this attempt now is because I just cannot wait any longer to impress you,” the attempted assassin wrote to Foster.
“I’ve got to do something now to make you understand in no uncertain terms that I am doing all of this for your sake …. Jodie, I’m asking you to please look into your heart and at least give me the chance with this historical deed to gain your respect and love,” concluded the letter, written just hours before he went to the Washington Hilton, shooting the president and several others.

I found it very strange that the Hinckley family was friends of the Bushes.

If Reagan should have been impeached, we would be impeaching every President. That's not a defense of the Presidents. It's a note that the Executive branch is prone to abuse its power.

Even Comey admitted through his friend in the NYTimes leaking; that he was schooling and training POTUS. Because IMO, most of Trump's cabinet is clueless of insider DC ways.

Reagan had a secretary named Trump and Trump had a secretary named Reagan.

Geraldo just said, no President in our history has ever been put in the position that every word uttered from his mouth is spied on and reported to the press.
This is surreal stuff. I wonder if the younger ones are aware that the President should not be spied upon by his own government.

I'd like to see Newt be chief of staff and Huckabee (the daddy) be press sec.

Can't really disagree. The Iran-Contra affair and subsequent fallout has resulted in Congress continually deferring more and more power to the executive branch. Bush 1 abused it, Clinton abused, Bush 2 abused it, Obama abused it,and now Trump is.

And the fact that Congress largely does nothing 99.99% if the time, even when both houses are controlled by the same party.

Imagine the things we would know about presidents like JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Slick Willy, if every word they uttered as President was leaked? Wow what a shitshow that would have been.

Speaking of slick willy...any posters from Arky know if it's true that he has a penthouse on top of his liebrary; and he invies girls up there all the time for wet tee shirt contests?

I will bet good money that in 4 days every word Trump said to SA will be leaked and the spooks that need a few days to put it to paper will tell the media to continue and blame Trump's inner cabinet...
It will be some critcism of Obama that the media freaks out over and that Trump talked muh russians again.
They want him to SNAP.
Guess what? He will, any human being would... but it will be to jail the felony leakers.
