Ben Nelson D-FL

quote:

Nelson said the legislation would expand medical residency programs to help train more doctors across the country. He said it would create 3,000 new Medicare-supported residency slots every year beginning in 2019, and growing to 15,000 by 2024. “We think it's a great thing for the community and for the nation,” Foy said.

Edit: whoever wrote this needs help. It is still unclear if it is 3k expansion for the years or if each year will gain an additional 3k

So 3k, 3k, 3k, 3k, 3k = 15k
vs
3k, 6k, 9k, 12k, 15k = 45k

That is honestly still not an awful plan we haven't had an expansion of residency slots in over 20 years.

That is what keep the competition down. Doctors control how many people are trained so the price of healthcare remains high.

True story: Doctors don't set reimbursement rates.

It isn't the only thing...

In 1972, institutional provider monopolization was strengthened after the Nixon Administration started restricting the supply of hospitals by requiring federal certificate-of-need for the construction of medical facilities.

How about the Federal Government just stay out of our distribution of health care?

Something tells me those 3,000 would be more needed in the Medicaid profession.

However, I'll take more doctors anywhere if it will help. A rather odd thing happened last week concerning doctors with me. We have a new clinic in town. Wife got bit by something causing swelling over her eye. I call the clinic to get her in. We've never used them before.

Anyhoo, type of insurance is asked for the wife. She then ask about my insurance for future reference in case I come in for something. Check this out - Since I'm now on Medicare, if I had called first for an appointment for me I would have been denied for Medicare insurance. However, if the wife goes first and me second then they will honor my coverage as a "piggyback" patient of her being accepted first.

Now that is what is fricked up by our healthcare policies/systems that we have.

If they open more residencies that'll just open the door for more foreign doctors

I don't want E. coli in my surgical site lol

What's fricked up about a business deciding who they want to serve? Most providers lose money on Medicare patients so in this instance they only wanted your business if they have your wife's commercial payer to subsidize you.

Is answered by this
quote:

That is just wrong. Either accept me and Medicare or don't accept me at all for Medicare. Shouldn't be any damn stipulations to it.

Then don't give them your business. Accept that they have stipulations, or don't accept it.

It's the same way with life insurance. I got a cheaper rate for being a rider on my wife's policy because of my tobacco use as opposed to me being the primary and she the rider. Just doesn't make sense to me.
