European court rules government protection from climate change is a human right

this would be funny if it wasn't going to bankrupt nations
‘Only the beginning’: European court rules government protection from climate change is a human right
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) sided with a group of female senior citizens who had sued their government over its perceived failures to sufficiently address climate change on human rights grounds, according to The Wall Street Journal.
A group of more than 2,000 Swiss women over the age of 64 alleged that the Swiss government’s climate change policies were in violation of the right to life and other provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, and the ECHR ruled in their favor in its first decision pertaining directly to climate change, according to the WSJ. The decision sets a new precedent in most of Europe that could encourage similar cases against national governments and corporations.
“Climate campaigners are likely to seize on the conclusion that states have positive obligations under human rights law in relation to climate change, and use it as the basis for future claims against states which they deem to not be moving quickly enough to address the threat of climate change,” Tom Cummins, a partner at a global law firm called Ashurst, told the WSJ. “Companies and financial institutions will also want to review these cases carefully. Corporate climate litigation often relies on human rights arguments, including in high profile cases like the Dutch litigation brought by Milieudefensie against Shell. The decision in the case against Switzerland will likely encourage claims of this nature.”

This is going to open the door to some serious government overreach and overbearing authority. They're selling their freedoms away and we're probably not far behind if the left gets their way

Can’t wait to see all the drastic personal cuts politicians, world rulers, and attorneys take to protect us from climate change. All Zoom meetings to avoid air travel. Downsizing of homes to limit carbon footprints. Minimizing use of vehicles. Environment sustaining diets. Limits on HVAC and furnace use.

Gas stoves and ovens are already being banned in major cities in the US.

Do all that and more and still the course of the Earth’s climate won’t change one iota. It will keep changing and there is nothing we humans can do about it.

Sounds like a judicially decreed famine on the way. No natural gas for heating, electricity, or fertilizer. No diesel to run farm equipment or to get the food from field to store. These idiots clearly haven't thought this through.

In celebration of this ruling I will burn 2 tires at the farm this weekend.
Just doing my part for climate change.

I don't have a farm, and I do the same with old tires, motor oil, various trash. Gets the pile of brush/trees going real hot.

Switzerland still has their own currency and much of their own sovereignty. They should bail.

Imagine thinking that handing government the power to
destroy one's economic opportunities is a 'human right'.

Imagine being retarded enough to think that the government can protect you from the climate.

I use biological, sustainable, earth friendly materials so I am not dependent on coal or gas. I also don’t like wind power due to use of rare earth components. My magical material is called firewood. Cut a black locust tree down and ten more pop up.
Or we build more nuclear reactors.
Damn these buzzwords are silly.

From the link - The summer weather in Switzerland can range from warm and sunny to rainy and foggy on the same day—and often within hours. From June to August, average temperatures will climb from the low- to mid-60s up to the high 70s F. Heat waves are possible, and could drive temperatures up to the 90s at lower elevations. These are the best months to jump into Swiss lakes and rivers for a swim or ride funiculars or mountain railways up to higher altitudes (and cooler weather) for an exhilarating hike.
Heaven forbid they come to Louisiana in the summertime.
Those biddies remind of the C.S. Lewis quote - “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
