I agree with OP, I abhor the estate tax and find it basically criminal, and I likely will never sniff having a taxable estate.

Should be a push button issue but gets lost in the chaos.

The people who this is intended to tax are usually smart enough to set up their holdings in a way that they don’t need to be passed down and taxed. The 12 million number drops back to closer to 5-6 million in 2026, and at that point it is absolutely affecting families with small businesses.

We have a couple businesses and will be talking with our tax guy about what we need to change ahead of 2026 in case something were to happen to my wife and I at the same time, so our kids wouldn’t have to sell the businesses to pay the taxes.

Tax it when you:

Buy it
Sell it
And kick it.

Triple taxation.

You're ducking stupid.

quote:

Yet in 1913, due to generous exemptions and deductions, less than 1 percent of the population paid income taxes at the rate of only 1 percent of net income.

This document settled the constitutional question of how to tax income and, by so doing, effected dramatic changes in the American way of life.

quote:

n 1894, as part of a high tariff bill, Congress enacted a 2-percent tax on income over $4,000. The tax was almost immediately struck down by a five-to-four decision of the Supreme Court, even though the Court had upheld the constitutionality of the Civil War tax as recently as 1881.

Funny how that changed, you mouthbreather. But yes, Poli.

Just those rich MF'ers over there. That's all that will pay. Sure.

3rd, 4th, 5th generation nepo babies whose only contribution to society is choosing where to invest their unearned wealth bothers me more than a toothless estate tax.

Society should demand that wealth is earned and that control over it doesn’t extend decades or centuries beyond the grave.
