"Education is THE civil rights issue of our time" - Trump

Trump is 100% right. I sincerely hope he can usher in an era of school choice.
The quality of education you get should not be determined by the zip code your parents can afford. It should not be determined by your address. It should be determined by YOU.
This is absolutely critical if we ever want to break the cycle of poverty.

So fully government funded education for all?

How long will Dems be allowed to segregate minority children in shifty schools ? How long will the teachers unions sacrifice millions of minority kids to maintain power and influence?

Letting the teacher unions frame the entire Democratic Party platform on education puts them squarely against students and parents.
Democrats are on the wrong side of this. They want to protect the status quo in public schools. They can give a shite about the students.

People are overlooking or intentionally forgetting something ... Trump didn't just reach across party lines - he reached across racial lines.
Young ghetto raised lady who is the first to graduate from college ... very attractive, beautiful smile.
And the father of the young man, promising athlete, who was slain by a twice deported illegal.
Not to mention a half dozen references to mothers feeling safe in their neighborhoods.
He hit all the right chords tonight.

School choice would do more for inner city students than anyone else. What is happening to inner city public schools is a national tragedy.

I'm not well versed on school choice. Someone please educate me on it and why it's a good thing. Wouldn't it be bad for public schools?

So the old conservative mantra, "it's not the schools, it's the parent(s)" is dead now?

Teacher unions fight charters, school choice, and every effort to increase accountability. They own the Democratic party on education unfortunately.

Which is funny because he has been saying stuff like that since early on in the campaign. I don't know why it finally resonated tonight.

Trump attracted the largest percentage of the black vote for a republican in over 30 years. African Americans are openly questioning the DNC these days, and many are vocalizing cautious, skeptic receptiveness for Trump. They heard he was something different, most don't believe that he is some crazy racist. He has promised to help them.
It is time to put up or shut up. Trump has an opportunity for the GOP to destroy the DNC's coalition. Blacks (entitlements, education, and crime), gays (Dems courtship of Islam), burnouts (War on Drugs), teamsters (infrastructure improvements and manufacturing), and the youth (political correctness and free speech) are all wavering in their support of the DNC.
If Trump hits the right notes and backs that talk with actions, he could flip all of them to the RNC. I hope to goodness he delivers.

Typically school choice has come ato a sacrifice to accountability because charter schools and private schools don't play by the same set of rules. Why not change the public school rules where it makes sense?

Straight from the horses mouth, unfiltered by a biased media.

No. The problem is the good parents can't send their kids anywhere but shitty schools.

And mid-to-upper class, largely white districts fight equity funding, zoning, bus service, etc., to keep lower class kids out of their district and their money in their district.

And his stance on school choice will empower inner city students and parents if he can make it a reality.
It's a great day for education in America.

Charter Schools are an anathema to Democrats. Once Black Children get away from NEA infested schools, Liberals lose the message.
