For your information Dr. Kildare, a strain of Ebola has already been shown to infect via airborne spread from pigs to primates in a lab setting.

It was as predictable as darkness following sunset. Whatever the motivation, the CDC knew it was putting our citizens at risk. No quarantine of potential carriers meant Ebola was coming to the US. It was just a matter of time. I cannot believe Tom Frieden, even if he is an incompetent buffoon of first order, would proceed as he has without directives and/or encouragement to do so. In following that directive, he violated his hippocratic oath.

Was this another act of "intentional" incompetence?

What did the lab do to make it become airborne?

Nothing. They were studying existing strains.

Let's try again, shall we?

there hasn't been a known virus yet to undergo such a drastic mutation that it changes its mode of infection.

More on Pig Lab Test

Not sure of the source, but more information about the pigs and the Ebola virus. Ebola seems to definitely have much less of an impact on pigs though.

Yes, I suspected his response was sort of a non sequitur.

True, it's not airborne YET.

But this disease could mutate to airborne at anytime.

I can't for the life of me understand why all flights to and from west Africa wasn't shut down immediately upon the start of this diseases explosion.

Just a really dumb administration.

It's a JV virus. Nothing to worry about.

did you read the study and if so was it this one? LINK

quote:

Here we show ZEBOV transmission from pigs to cynomolgus macaques without direct contact.

so pig to monkey (human) okay we knew that but

quote:

Interestingly, transmission between macaques in similar housing conditions was never observed.

monkey to monkey (human to human) not observed.

also from the study
quote:

he design and size of the animal cubicle did not allow to distinguish whether the transmission was by aerosol, small or large droplets in the air, or droplets created during floor cleaning which landed inside the NHP cages (fomites).

quote:

We have also never observed transmission of EBOV from infected to naive macaques, including in an experiment employing the same cage setting as in the current study,

quote:

although pigs can generate infectious short range large aerosol droplets more efficiently then other species1

so pigs can make short range aerosol droplets that infect other species but the monkeys even when they were in the same cage did not pass it on.

Just curious do you have any background in medicine or viral research? This is no way a callout or shot, I am just curious.
