Don't CNN, MSNBC, etc., have to make money?

I can understand liberal dogma even if I disagree. But at what point is profit a concern? Their ratings are below shopping networks and food channels.
Fox is very successful. Even a moderate channel would be refreshing.
When do shareholders and boards of directors step in?

Shep Smith just ripped Trump for belittling CNN. Trump is just a big bully.

I think CNN becoming Trump enemy #1 could be pretty profitable for them

Excellent question.
And the fact that Fox news isn't publically traded makes it even more interesting.
Is this an example of a market failure? If so, what is the alternative to a market-based media?

I think some of you cheering on trump for his belittling of the media are forgetting that he won the race for the president of the United States - not Chief "Lib" Jimmie Rustler.
He is the leader of a hell of a lot of people. He should act like it.

How? By spending his time playing golf and eating delicious ice cream cones?

CNN and MSNBC each had a record 2016.
Trump will be good for business.

So "they did it first" and even though you bitched about it endlessly you're ok with it now?

Not really. Those networks are so tied up into media conglomerates that if they lose money, its offset by free advertising for the parent company or profits from a non-loser.
For example, Time Warner owns CNN, in addition to:
HBO (big money maker)
Cinemax
TBS
TruTV
TNT
Turner Sports (several NASCAR races)
NCAA.com
March Madness on Demand
PGA.com
Bleacher Report
NBA TV
NBA.com
The Smoking Gun website
Cartoon Network
Part of Hulu
Warner Brothers
DC Comics
WB Home Video
There's a lot of profit makers in there to offset CNN's losses.
Comcast owns NBC as well as:
Comcast
the Philadelphia Flyers NHL team
Wells Fargo Center (NBA/NHL venue in Philly)
New Era
11 NBC stations in top 20 markets
Telemundo
The Weather Channel
NBC Sports
Golf Channel
MLB Network
NHL Network
Universal Studios Theme Parks
Universal Pictures
Dreamworks Studios
Fandago
Disney owns ABC, as well as
ESPN
Walt Disney Pictures
Lucas Film
Marvel Comics
Walt Disney Music
Walt Disney Theatre
Disney Retail
Disney Games
Disney Parks and Resorts
A&E Networks
History Channel
Lifetime
Freeform
Fox News is owned by Fox, that owns 20th Century Fox and others.
That is A TON OF MEDIA owned by four companies.

Yes. And I want my leader to tell CNN to go frick themselves. If they want to be treated with respect they should try telling the truth once in a while.

Yes, but all segments are judged by their own successes. Whoever runs CNN should want to make his division a profitable.

I totally agree, why do they all have to be biased? We have Sling TV with CNN and would love a different option, but not MSNBC or Fox News...
