Does it matter what the "Founders intentions" were?

Intentions are nice, but they're a worthless commodity when it comes to results. If you're unhappy with the size, scope and power of our current government, they share an enormous amount of blame.

Either they didn't write the Constitution well enough, or maybe old pieces of paper with dead men's signatures on it aren't as powerful as we've been led to believe.

Look at this doe:

Look at Obama. He don't want none of that.

And look at Lincoln. He's like "Wut? I ignored that shite. I don't know why I'm so happy."

The results of the Founders = the oldest Constitution on Planet Earth. If Obama and the left replaces it with Marxism tomorrow I'd say "Good job, Founders. Good job."

the Constitution works only when the political culture still values freedom. The Federalist Papers make that clear. Your point is meh.

Political propaganda from the very people who benefited financially from the federal governments creation, and were our nations first rulers.

I still don't get when people say "THE CONSTITUTION WAS CREATED TO LIMIT GOVERNMENT!" By making a bigger one that didn't exist previously?

Think of it this way. The Founders knew that govts don't last forever. Forever is a long time. They knew the history of the rise and fall of great nations and the dangers of tyranny. Tyranny is the natural state of govt. Freedom is the natural state of individuals.

We were very lucky to have Founders who had gone through the British experience of weighing govt v. liberty a long time before 1776.

America will fall. When? I don't know. But today the people riding in the wagon greatly outnumber the people pulling the wagon.

I don't see how that can be reversed.

The consitution and a republic gov't is only as good as the people who uphold it. It's the responsibility of the citizenry to make sure good and honorable people are tasked with that. In the last 80 years, we have failed that responsibility miserably.

Ok. That's a fair opinion.

But they did fashion the government largely after the government they rebelled against, with some tweaks. I'm not sure if they thought it would do better or didn't care.

It did it for the LONGEST TIME of any Constitution. You cannot limit govt forever. Govt is a beast that must continue feeding. The founders kept the beast in chains for a very long time by historical standards. So, raise a glass for the Founders!

England still had a monarch but we did borrow a lot from English common law.

Well then, you aren't very bright then.

Everything in the constitution speaks to limited central government and states rights supersceefing the central government powers
