Yes. I buy as much American made clothing as possible. I also buy American made musical instruments.

Small purchase no. Larger purchases yes.

Yes. I'll pay a little more for American made products. In fact my last dishwasher, a whirlpool, is made in the us.

In many cases, there is no choice. Electronic components are almost entirely manufactured in Asia. Standard capacitors and resistors are not manufactures in the US. Some specialized passives are manufactured here, but they are not even remotely competitive ($0.50 for high reliability resistor vs. $0.001 for a standard part). Manufacturing of the low cost parts could be done here with costs only slightly higher than the Asian parts, but for the most part the equipment to manufacture them also comes from Asia.
All Apple products are manufactured at Foxconn in China.

Yes, it matters a lot to me. If the quality is equal or sufficient I will pay more to support American workers

Assuming the product quality is the same and the American made product costs a little more, would you still buy it?
Isn't the goal of a free market to have the best products and not just the ones made in your country?
Hell yes I want jobs back here. The middle class will continue to wither away until the jobs that require mid level skills return.

Sure, but is the better option not to invest our resources in businesses in which we have a serious comparative advantage? Manufacturing here just for the sake of it is a de facto subsidy.

They're assembled there - a key difference. The actual value captured by Chinese companies from the iPhone is only about 10%. The biggest winner is Korea (something like 1/3 IIRC) and then Germany, the US, and Taiwan closely behind. Common trading statistics won't capture that, as value add calculations are extraordinarily complicated to calculate even for just one product (like the iPhone), but straight up trade deficits are extremely misleading.

The Glock pistol, sometimes referred to by the manufacturer as a Glock "Safe Action" pistol and colloquially as a Glock, is a series of polymer-framed, short recoil-operated, locked-breech semi-automatic pistols designed and produced by Glock Ges.m.b.H., located in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria.

The Glock HQ is in Smyrna, Georgia. They build most glocks there now from what I've read

I buy American and then Southern.

Buying local and American are factors to me when shopping. Doesn't apply to vehicles though.
Posted on 1/16/17 at 7:36 pm to Rebelgator
I've always been an American car/truck buyer until my last round if vehicles. The last American cars sucked so bad, I've switched to Toyotas. They are better in every possible way. I don't think I'll ever buy another American car or truck.
I'm middle aged and remember when we made great cars that were built like a tank. Since the 90's they've just sucked.

I buy a lot of specialty equipment from several industries.
The items made in the US are vastly superior to the same products from anywhere else. They also cost a lot more. In some cases 3 times as much.
But here is the best part, most of these items because they are so finely made they completely hold their value and can be resold for what I paid for them.
Even after using them for a few years, when I upgrade to newer items.

Depends on the product. I would NEVER buy an American car. Id consider a Ford truck though. Probably an older 9th generation F-250/350 or an old International or Jeep.
Most the stuff made in the US arent consumer level goods. What little the US does still manufacture is mostly in the commercial and industrial field. Medical equip, aeronautics, gauges and valves, tractors and farm equip., etc.
Looking around my house and garage I have mostly stuff from Europe and India. I have a bunch of US made stuff but its almost all really old. I refuse to buy anything from China unless absolutely necessary.
frick China.

We are America. We are supposed to make the best always. It should be indoctrinated.
The problem is our quality programs suffered significantly back in the 70's, allowing imports to gain significant momentum. The best way to ensure American quality and innovation, and to keep our companies competitive globally, is to make our markets as open as possible.

Right that makes sense. used items selling for the exact same price as new items. happens to me all the time.
I work with special needs children, so that could be why.

Other than Carhartt and American Apparel, who else makes clothing in the US?
