I can't remember the last time I saw an article so devoid of logic, reason, and even basic understanding of arithmetic. It's really from an AP writer
very strange. And to clarify, I was calling the writer of the article stupid. They obviously have never seen a real homeless person.

rticle states median rent is $800/month. But, these people pay as little as $39/day (or over $1000/month) and stay at motels instead.

Just thinking, but does $800 include cable and other utilities they aren't paying for at the motel? The motel might actually be cheaper when you factor that in.

Actually, the video that goes with it shows the place they are at is $149 per week.

That's right $600 per month.

1- it's $600
2- Yes
3- there are 3 adults there. That means in order to live there, each needs to make 200 per month. That's $6.70 a day. That's $.28 cents per hour (24 hour day) or 84 CENTS per hour on an 8 hour day!

Most of the time they can't afford the lump sum deposit for utilities so they stay in hotels where they can pay weekly rates and live paycheck to paycheck.

Capitalism is the reason they get to make any money at all, rather than starving to death.

Maybe this type of thing should factor into the decision to have children.

I get it. I'm one of those who came from ZERO.. nodda. Nothing.

The fact is the story is just wrong from top to boo
ttom. First they kinda blame Disney. 8 per hour. That's roughly $240 per week based on a 30 hour week.

$600 per month rent... $1000 per month made. So if one of them works at disney, another watches the kids, the other can pick up cans and bring in 200 per month. The one that watched the kid can get a part time job... 400 per month.

I just looked at Disney jobs and a custodian starts out at $8.15 hour. So I’m questioning this $8.03

Interestingly, they didn't find a single example, who actually WORKS AT DISNEY. Most of those are college students looking for something to put on their resumes. In other words, it's basically a paid internship. They aren't hiring derelicts, like the people in that stupid article.

worked at WDW 20 years ago. Disney College Program. made $5.60/hour. Thought it was good money. But, I knew I wasn't going to make a career out of it. I was 1.5 years from graduating LSU. I could've stayed cause they wanted me to work fulltime, but I couldn't have lived on that salary. Now, if I was retired and lived in Orlando area and needed a job, that would be a great job to have.

Yeah, this is basically my understanding of the vast majority of Disney employment.

My only question is, I would assume had you stayed there is some sort of management track type system, whereby if you wanted it to be more than just a resume padder/paid internship type deal, you would actually start to make at least decent money, no?

Yes, I would've definitely gone into management. Problem was, I couldn't have afforded to stay there alone. Disney is smart. They pay college student very little money (bascially contract workers...no benefits when I was there). Trained us for a couple weeks to work in the parks. Students work for a semester until the next bunch arrive. Wasn't hard work. Easy and fun.

Not to be crude, but why do you think someone who tears tickets for a living should make more than $10/hour?

Exactly.

Grown adults with multiple children needing minimum wage jobs to support their family.....as sad as their stories are, you don't get into that position without making SEVERAL terrible life decisions.
