Geopolitically speaking, a thing that is considered a grave action. Is it a lucky coincidence that it's been used so rarely in the past 20-30 years? No, "we" all understood that the use of them requires very serious response. It's very destabilizing to an entire region or more.
Of course Shitbird Obama's response to Syria's last use of nerve gas against its citizens wasn't very effective. The sham agreement Syria signed to get rid of their chemical weapons has clearly been breached.

Yeah wmds are bad and that's why nation's sign treaties not to use them. And guess what happens when you breach the contract? It's been that way for a long time.

Yup.
Which is why something needed to be done.
You use these weapons...get your balls kicked in. This should signal anyone (North Korea I am looking at you) the US isn't going to frick around with you...

So is the mass kidnapping of children and selling to slave markets.
Did we bomb anybody for that?

Which state government is overtly kidnapping children and selling them to slave markets?

Oh. It has to be a government for us to respond. Okay. Gotcha.

Non-state actors can't violate treaties. I'm not sure you understand what's going on here.
