but the President doesn't set the budget.
Today the President is part of the negotiation and is directly responsible for the budget, as much as the HOR and Senate. They all have a seat at the table.

All spending bills must start in the House. Once passed, they go to the Senate. If the Senate makes changes, it can then go to Reconciliation between the Senate and House. After that, a spending bill goes to the President to sign or veto.
Or you just negotiate it up front and the votes are a formality.

Ok
I know it doesn't seem like it sometimes, but I'm a friendly to you. Please don't dive into the pit of macro economics and finance with what you are working with in that department.

Right.
quote:
Federal agencies create budget requests and submit them to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
OMB refers to the agencies’ requests as it develops the budget proposal for the president.
The president submits the budget proposal to Congress early the next year.

WTF?
Are you under the impression that the President is out of the budget loop?
Posted on 4/21/24 at 11:20 am to RogerTheShrubber
I'm not under that impression.
That's not a very serious question. This is my point.
Do what you gotta do, Rog. I'm not sticking around for this.

Yet it seems to be the impression of those who are on the side of MAGA, which is why we dealt with it here.
My response was to a direct quote, maybe go deal with those people.

The debt will continue to explode no matter who the president is. The actual president really can't do much to stop it at this point
They are all drunk sailors at this point.

Can any Trump supporters be honest and just admit that, when it comes to the deficit/debt, Trump sucked? I mean really sucked.
Relative to GWB, Biden, Obama...not really. Relative to what Hillary would have done...nope. Relative to Paul Ryan or 99% of GOP Congressmen...nope. Who exactly can you point to and say "yeah that President was a way better spender"?
Id love to hear what you people want Trump supporters to do? Not vote and let the Biden handlers run this country for 4 more years? At the very least, Trump wont have me arrested and thrown in jail for wrongthink. I really dont know what your practical endgame is

We want you to get Trump to address the fricking issue. He is your guy and he says nothing about debt/deficits. It appears the MAGA base isn't interested in applying pressure.

It's not entirely unfair to put blame on a given President for deficit spending, but the onus remains on Congress. The President submits a budget, but then Congress can do (and often does) whatever the frick they want with it.
The president is the undisputed leader of his party. If he can't get his own party's congressional members to fall in line with what his spending, saving and taxing priorities, then he sucks as the leader of his party.
Trump did this, right? But not in the way you and I wanted. He led congressional Republicans to spend more and given in to Democrat demands. Just look at all the Democrat causes that were funded by Covid relief bills Trump lobbied for and signed. Hell, he tried to get Massie primaried for not falling in line on Covid relief spending.

MAGA base has applied pressure. Trump got plenty of flack for signing the Porkulus bill. The thing is...Trump has never campaigned on being a deficit hawk. He just is what he is at this point. Nobody that challenged Trump in the primary was a deficit hawk either. Practically, there isnt anything MAGA base can do at this point

Which is why hes a major part of the problem.

When and how did the MAGA base apply pressure? I must have missed it because what I've seen from Trump's fervent base is absolute deference and emotional reactions to criticisms of DT.

More revisionist history. When Trump tried to advance conservative policies like a wall and repealing Obamacare, he got resistance. When he went along with the uniparty, he got little resistance.

If you don't think Trump championed Covid response spending, and in fact lobbied for more spending than Pelosi proposed and that he didn't try to get Thomas Massie primaried for publicly resisting all the ridiculous spending - you're the one with a fricked view of history.

Stop voting for grifters.
Y'all do realize all of this will end in a massive tax increase, dont you?
