This is 99 percent tragic, sad maybe even criminal.
This is 1 percent funny, like something Leslie Nielsen would do in an Airplane movie.
I guess I am going to hell because I have to admit I laughed a little. Maybe a bit more than a little.
Posting on political board because you gotta know this will be a political storm over the next days.

Gotta take this one a bit skeptically.

Was she as unnerved when Obama had a fake sign-interpreter at one of his foreign trips?

This is 99.9% hilarious
It would have been 100% if he did a "jerking off" move as well.

I prefer the words being scrolled across the bottom of the tv as opposed to sign language people. They are distracting.

Easy solution: computer generated character generator that people who are deaf can turn on and read the closed captioning and so people who aren't deaf don't have to watch that.

I wish I could find a gif of the sign language lady from "Airplane".

Would have been funnier if the interpreter signed something real, like the Steiner rant.

Don't deaf people have the subtitle thing?

At least he didn't make those stupid faces most interpreters make.

More than 1 percent funny. Hilarious. I think the guy meant well since his brother is deaf & he probably has basic Sign Language skills. Enough to navigate a basic conversation with his brother, but not translate a natural disater in a pinch.
The South African guy was a complete fraud however

The "stupid" facial expressions are extremely important in everyday sign language. It is facial expressions & body language used to deliver a message.
NYC storm interpreters Lydia Callis( Bloomberg) & Jonathan Lamberton ( De Blasio) were appreciated greatly in the deaf community.
Jonathan Lamberton was born deaf & understands this importance.

IMHO the phrase
CLOSE ENOUGH FOR GOVERNMENT WORK
should apply here in the Signer's defense.
