Is not following orders a death sentence?

When I was 5 years old my mom told me 'When the police tell you to do something, you do it. Or they can shoot you dead.'
I was always very polite with the police. And I'm alive.

Dunno. Probably 20 or 30 times in my life someone has told me they're carrying. I have shot zero of them. Perhaps I should get a medal.

Read Yanez's statement in this thread again and then try to defend his actions with a straight face.

You also see the officer repeatedly tell him not to reach for the gun, but he does so anyway.

Every single one of these, with the exception of the one in S.C. where he shot the fat guy in the back running away, it was a matter of compliance. Had any of these guys comply there's no story.

If you believe most people are inherently good, then yes.

Cops in America can look at perps and offenders As bad people. You're perspective in a situation matters.

Did all you idiots go to the same school?

Of course they did, they were taught that the cop is never wrong, that the cop has only a split second to judge and react.

Juries will always side with the police officer in cases like this....even tough Yanez gave the guy about three seconds to reverse his actions before he pulled and shot.

Do you know how hard it is to convict a cop of anything? The guy in Charleston is on camera chasing a guy who is running away from him and he empties a few into the guy's back when standard procedure was to call for back up and stop the chase.....cops running down perps only happens on TV or if they KNOW the guy is not armed .

For those of you interested in actual truth.

Castile was riding dirty in his car with his girlfriend and that little girl. They had been smoking weed.

Gets pulled over. Tells cop he has a gun. Cop tells him not to get it. Castile, being high and not acting sensibly, incredibly ignores the cops instructions and reaches for where the gun is. What he was actually going to get we will never know, but let's assume it was not the gun and he was just going to get his driver's license or something.

Cop does not understand why this a-hole is ignoring his direct repeated instructions and seems to be going for the very gun the guy just told him he had.

Boom (a lot), Philando is dead.

Was he a bad guy - seemingly not, but he is dumbass for how he acted. Did the cop make a mistake, seemingly so but he does not need to go to jail for Philando being a dumbass not capable of following explicit directions because he is riding around fricked up with his girlfriend and little girl.

Now, let the down votes commence, but this is the truth and how the jury saw it. And I have no problem with it. RIP Philando, sorry you were a moron.

Pre-emptive murder is not the same thing as self defense or even a reasonable fear of your life. If he didn't see a weapon I have a hard time believing I would have acquitted him. Sounds like he got nervous and had itchy fingers when he got scared.

Always comply with the police and do exactly what they say. Have your lawyer argue later in court.

Sounds simple, unless you don't speak English, are deaf, mentally ill, having a reaction to a medication you took, and a host other reasons where innocent people were killed by the police for "not complying". The mentally of today's police has become better to be safe and shoot first then try to figure out what was causing the person to behave in a unusual manner. It is a high risk job, if they can't deal with that they should find another occupation.

Are you sure? I believe he handed over one of the two of his license and insurance. I'll check.

He had only given his insurance card to Yanez at this point. So he was likely reaching for his wallet to comply with the request for his license.

After the shooting, Yanez still doesn't know where the gun was so he doesn't know Castile was reaching for his gun.

My mother told me the same thing. Only she was talking about if I got held up by things trying to rob me.

Why would the dude tell him out right that he had concealed carry and then draw. Why not just go for the gun instead of tell the cop he had a concealed carry?

What?!

If I'm ever pulled over with a gun on me, I'm keeping both hands on the steering wheel and not reaching for anything without specific instructions to do so. If I need to grab something that is anywhere near the gun I'm making damn sure I let the cop know exactly where the gun is and what it is I'm reaching for.

No one deserves to be killed but the driver was on drugs and didn't listen in a very dangerous situation. I don't blame the police officer.

You're an idiot. You don't put your hand any damn where near where a gun is with a cop around. Philando was an idiot. And a high one at that.

Of course, Steve wasn't a democrat.

FYI

I was awake when the shooting took place and saw the first reports of it as they were coming in.

My first reaction to hearing Congressmen were being shot at was... I sure hope they are democrats!

Tragic situation but if a cop tells you not to pull out your gun repeatedly and you ignore him bad things can happen. Pulling out a gun on a cop is never a good idea. It's not the cops job to play a guessing game if you are going to shoot him or not.
