Possibly. I have no problem with the same standards being applied imports.

The US growers have done very well developing their "farm raised" catfish brand, and it's seen as a premium product in many ways.

I wish that Louisiana could increase brand awareness with their gulf seafood the way that the Catfish farmers did with the farm rased stuff. I can usually taste the difference when it comes to seafood.

We are ahead of that game already. We are increasing supply expecting increase in demand. Everyone restocked fully, fingerling farmers hatched more fish, many farms are rebuilding some ponds and increasing acres some. I know 2 new farmers are getting in the industry.

The farm my dad manages for example is putting 4000 acres back into production.

We are preparing ahead of time to be ready and ensure we don't end up short on supply and see price hikes that would cause tilapia to take over market share

But you will no longer have the downward price pressure of competition. Prices will increase regardless.

From what I am reading, they view Tilapia as their competition. Makes sense to me.

Yes we will. Tilapia will put pressure on prices. It costs more than Vietnamese catfish but not more than domestic catfish. Right now we are slightly more than tilapia. If we raise prices much higher then we will lose market share to tilapia.
