I was agreeing with you it was sarcasm on reference to how others are treating this

I have been to the eastern half of Ukraine not in the penninsula. There's a ton of ethnically Russian people there. Does Russia get that too?
First, I'm not taking a position on the legitimacy of Russia's actions. Just pointing out some interesting factors.
I would argue that there is a vast difference in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. Russians make only 17% of Ukraines total population (Ukrainians are 87%.) It is true that in certain regions of Eastern Ukraine, Russians make up about 1/3 of the total population.
However, the vast majority of ethnic Russians living in Ukraine live in Crimea. They make up around 60% of the total population of Crimea.
So while there are a lot of Ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine, it's not even half the number as in Crimea . . . and its certainly not a majority.
But again, I think Russia's primary concern here is Sevastopol.

The US military is sending 12 F-16 fighter jets to Poland for a training exercise, according to Polish media reports. The Polish defence ministry has not confirmed the reports, says Reuters.
Earlier, the US Air Force announced it was sending six additional F-15 jets to Lithuania to bolster the existing "Baltic Air Police" mission there.

My understanding is that where there is industry (eastern cities) there is a Russian majority. I'd be surprised if anyone has accurate percentages of ethnicity in cities and regions. A general rule of thumb seems to be that whatever language an area speaks determines which side they're on. Odessa seems to be an exception to this rule.
One thing that we can all agree on is that this situation is a dangerous mess. Let's hope it plays out safely for all involved.

This is the way it should go down. If the people in that region want to be allied with Russia, let the majority rule. Do it peacefully according to the will of the people.

It will go down just that way.

were also sending a guided missle destroyer (or whatever) to the Black Sea.
Nice show of military movements along with economic and diplomatic sanctions. About all that can be done... except....
I advocate calling Putin's bluff. He says the forces in Crimea arent under his command. Id start moving major assets that direction and send the message that since these arent Russion forces, NATO/US will assist liberating Crimea from rogue occupation at the request of Ukraine.
then watch Putin shite his pants.
totally call that bullshite. He'll own up to it real quick, lest he abaondon his own troops and risk them being overrun by US/NATO.

Russians make only 17% of Ukraines total population

Polish officials also claimed that the U.S. was sending 12 F-16s to Poland, along with 300 U.S. troops. The Pentagon, though, said no decision had been made, though "Secretary Hagel is committed to increasing our participation in the aviation detachment in Poland, a detachment he visited recently."
The U.S. Navy also announced it is sending a guided-missile destroyer to the Black Sea as part of a "scheduled" deployment.
In other news:

Texas governor Rick Perry (R) announced that he was sending one (1) Texas Ranger to the Ukraine in order offset the increased Russian military presence and to use for security for the US Embassy and the US Ambassador.

Nikita Khrushchev's granddaughter was on Chris Hayes' show tonight and she said that John Kerry should get on about the business of negotiating the terms of Crimea's separation from Ukraine because Putin is never going to give it back.

Is any of this due in some measure to the "balkanization" of the former USSR?
Ethnic families left in areas not usually attributed to them after the break up?
