So as it turns out this all may be a pretty minor deal?

Not at all. And the severity of the situation depends on who you are.

Sevastopol (and the whole Crimean region) is a geographically important area. That's why I think this whole deal revolves around Russia taking measures to not lose its presence there.

When ya'll secede all of the national guard equipment that was given to Texas is going with the US

You need to study history. This is not how it works and the state line would not be the border. There are far too many sympathizers so come and get your national guard equipment if you think you can take it.

Can the Texans even secede from the US? Hasn't that option been disproven? National Guard is actually under State control and under the governor unless the President envokes certain procedures. However, the Guard took an oath to up hold the Constitution and are under the authority of the Commander and Chief. The Guard reports to the Pentagon. Therefore the Guard would not stay with Texas. Truthfully, Texas would not need an Army. Just ask Canada or Mexico.

If these people are truly seceding by their free will and it is indeed the will of the people, Crimea should be granted its independence. However, if they are seceding because they are being forced to at the barrel of the guns of 16,000 Russian soldiers, then they should not be granted independence. I'm sure the truth, as usual, is somewhere in between.

I have been to the eastern half of Ukraine not in the penninsula. There's a ton of ethnically Russian people there. Does Russia get that too?

I think the difference is that Crimea was given to the Ukraine after they joined the USSR. It has a history of being separated from the Ukraine. The Ukraine gov just passed a law unifying the Ukraine under one language which was a slap in the face of those with Russian heritage.

The rus people originated at kyiv and every Russian empire included ukraine. Heck the whole country has probably spent more time under Moscow control than its own. So why not just the whole country?

Texas sends about $1.6 million more to Washington than it gets from Washington (the only red state which sends more than it receives).

Then this begs the question, why the f' are the blue states so dead set on holding on to the red states? Wouldn't you (blue state) rather keep more of your tax dollars home?

After Russia gets the Crimea, this is Putin's next move. He will say it's what the people want.

You're just too much of a simpleton to understand. I mean it's basically Russia anyways

This works out to $.06 per resident...assuming that 50% of residents do not pay any taxes that would mean a refund of $.12 annually. I think most of the rest of the US would gladly pay every tax payer in Texas 12 cents a year to no longer call themselves Americans...hell I would gladly foot the bill for 10,000 Texans every year my self. Of course the number of illegal residents swimming the Sabine and Red Rivers to escape the hell hole that is Texas coupled with the federal aid the good people of California and Massachussets would have to send to Texas to keep them from becoming Mexico's bitch would cost us a whole lot more than 12 cents per taxpayer.

Well I'll defer to your expertise. I mean you have been there once. Your visit there trumps the fact that I have family in the Crimea and that my wife owns property there.

I own property in America and have family here.

All my opinions of the American political landscape must be spot on.

I think he means that is not a distant observer. There is something to be said for local knowledge.
