Could the SCOTUS never fill another justice vacancy?

With the political climate the way it is, do you believe there is a chance of no justice making it through the confirmation process? Could they just die off one at a time over the years until there are only a couple left before we change the confirmation process?

No. People would start shooting their congressman and there would be riots in the streets. They will probably confirm him quickly and then the real battle sets up when Ginsburg retired. That's when the shite hits the fan.

senate majority for pubs ... why do you think he/she would never get confirmed? ... all this bs about nuke options and the like won't stop the prez's nominee ...

Simple majority can confirm a justice. So no.

Only if Pubs change the rules. It can't be done directly at this moment. The nuclear options by Harry Reid did not include Supreme Court nominees.

To answer the OP, the president can recess appoint a nominee for the remainder of the following Senate session, so no, the hypothetical isn't really possible. (I do not approve of recess appointments)
