All this amendment says is essentially that the Vice President becomes President if the President is removed, along with the rest of the order of succession. Do they really want Pence that bad?

Yes, yes it can. The Republican VP and Republican Congress just have to declare Trump unfit. Then remove Trump. Then they can declare a special election (they can't) and have no one run against HRC. Then everyone kisses and makes up and it is one big happy establishment again.
