Could Japan take out North Korea?

I know Japan used to have a bad arse military but I don't know anymore. I honestly think their military would surprise us.

Japan has a defense force, but I don't think they have much of an offensive capability. They can bomb, but they wouldn't be able to hold ground.

I think they could repel an attack (no idea about missiles fired at them) but I don't think they have the capability to be the aggressor.
