It was the cop's third day on the job too. As you can hear in the video, he is completely unhinged. Good to see some good cops finally waking up and saying something. This was nothing short of murder. He wanted to kill someone that day.

Cops don't even want to taze someone much less shoot them. WAY TOO MUCH PAPERWORK.

Red states like South Carolina and Florida have several cops locked up for doing just that. I can't believe some of you are still parroting the "no bad cops" line.

Unhinged folks don't commit murder?

That's just silly

Their hunch was right because the dude tried to run.

But sorry, a bad paint job should not be enough to escalate.
They should have driven on.

I don't know that he "wanted" to kill someone that day but I also don't think' unhinged is correct in that it implies a lack of control.

What I see here is a COMMON problem. Especially with small town departments which almost always are frankly, complete jokes.

This problem is that they are forced to hire people you'd never really want to give such authority. People who want that authority just a little more than they should.

He didn't "want" to kill someone that day, but he absolutely was one of those people who gets off on the power of having that authority.

This leaves cops like him ripe for exactly this type of behavior.

I agree that the cop should be fired but that doesn’t seem like murder to me. The driver of that vehicle made a lot of really bad choices. Both individuals handled the situation as poorly as they could.

Escalate? The perp escalated by running. The cops have the right to investigate and speak to him

Dude, no one is saying in this thread that all cops are on the up and up. Your problem is that 3/4 of your post history is about cops and anyone who doesn’t hate them as much as you is an automatic bootlicker. Literally no one was saying that all cops are good and honorable people.

I’m assuming the bad paint job thing is suspicious essentially because it indicates the car is likely stolen and has been repainted to avoid detection of its stolen status. I think grand theft auto is certainly something the cops should ask a question about.

Sometimes an example has to be made.

No, they don't. A bad paint job is not probable cause to investigate anything.

There's not nearly enough evidence provided by simply having a bad paint job to make that connection. That alone does not meet the burden of not probable cause IMO.

What is very unfortunate in this case is that the rookie wanted to do the right thing from the outset, which is put a warning sticker on the car for being double parked. The training officer is the one who went Billy Bad-arse and decided that, "A roller paint job on that car? With that headlight? That’s suspicious...you have every reason to start questioning somebody about that."

If it hadn't been for the veteran officer the whole thing never would have happened.

So the rookie he advised so badly is going to prison and he's back on the job.

Looked to me that the plates didn't come back when they checked nor could they see a Vin #. Valid shooting IMO due to suspect chose to flee. I'm tired of seeing criminals get away with there crimes while the police are told to just stand back

The wording of the article was a bit unclear. At one point, it said that there was no record of the out of state plates for the car. Is that to mean essentially that when they ran the plates, they were fake?

Beat me to it. I think what the article was trying to say, though it got a bit muddy, was that the cops saw the car double parked and noticed the paint job was off. They then checked the plates and they came back as bogus. Between the paint job and the plates, that led them to believe the car was likely stolen.

I'm waiting until the investigation is completed.

We all know how how these things turn out.
