It was the right decision in a tough situation, imo. Not the only reasonable or even the only right decision he could have made, though.

Only way he could keep her out of office, likely, and keep his job/life. The correct decision was to publically recommend prosecution, however.

Because it was not going to be a slam dunk conviction, and charging her would have nuked the election. And if he had charged her and she never ended up in jail, that would have sucked.

He treated it as a "political question" and laid it out simply and let the people decide her fate. And they did.

Just because she is guilty (in your mind) doesn't mean she would be convicted. It would have been a dogfight.

In the end, we're using allegations against a crooked old lady who probably won't run for office again to deflect from comparable allegations of impropriety against the sitting President
