quote:
or lawyers tell judges to "frick the law".
well there is that joke...if you have the law, pound the law...if you have the facts, pound the facts...if you have neither, pound the desk. there are a good number of "policy" arguments that have won, but that's mostly reversing precedent...not procedure
you're not going to win an argument about some policy issue by arguing about another policy issue altogether that applies to the base of the underlying scenario tangentially...even if it's a good argument
i thought a lot about this whole story last night and it's really a microcosm of the whole "social justice" and "protest" industries, at least in how they go about attempting to change the system. they don't/won't compete, and blame their lack of success on some mythicaly-biased institutions, so to "win" they push to destroy the whole system in a way that ironically aids their own biased preferences
this is why they do things like protest
this is why they do things like go for disruptive strategies around court rulings instead of repealing/changing laws
this is why they set up the "change" by creating a boogeyman if you prefer order and a measured, static system

It's not just grammar. My favorite article was about 20 years ago when an Indian (from India) commentator wrote that Math is an artificial construct created by the developed world to oppress and exploit the undeveloped world.
I'm surprised that nobody has complained that STEM is racist.
