This is all over the press. I'm tired of hearing them talk about what faith based organizations are doing in the wake of these disasters we've had.

Christians outpace Federal Government

quote:

And people who put God first, people who are committed to serving Jesus, people who are driven by a moral compass that comes from above, are the real doers and shakers and movers — the ones who see a need and respond.

The Big Government types? They see a need and dial their lawmaker — call for a committee hearing — petition for a study. It’s only after they navigate the hoops, and fill out the proper forms, they respond.

Whether you are a person of faith, or not, surely you can see the good work that churches do in our communities.

Why? If they are doing more work, should they not get more recognition? This is coming from an agnostic.

It's just an opinion piece by someone like you and I. Take it with a grain of salt. People believe what they believe. I'm not going to try to prove if the lady is right or wrong. It doesn't matter to me who assisted.

I could point you to some professional debates that throw the whole "our moral compass comes from religion" thing out the window. I saw people from all walks of life pitching in. It religious want to give the glory to god then that's their prerogative, but to act better simply because they do it because of a book is silly.

This is why I made the comment I made earlier when the Progs were bashing Christians in that separate thread below.

As an Atheist, I trust Christians WAAAAAAAY more than Progs, govt, or politicians.

In an atheistic worldview, there can't be an objective reason to help others.

I agree. In this war for the dawn you're either on the side of Trump and Jesus or you're on the side of the liberals, devil worshippers etc

Put the vape pen down and pick the bible up and let Jesus into your hearts, atheists

So would you rather faith based organizations just minded their own business and let the federal govt handle everything? How about groups like the Cajun Navy who have received a ton of press? Are you tired of hearing about them too? Seriously, why the hell are you bitching about organizations that are helping people in need?

That's my point. Obviously, I was being sarcastic about how much this is covered in the press.

Faith based organizations are obviously not the only people pitching in, but Churches have the ability to gather and organize people and supplies to make a difference.

I saw somebody on local TV say that he donated to the Red Cross because he was an atheist and didn't trust the churches because he thought they were going down to "preach and not help the people that needed helping".

That irks me that churches in general get slammed for being haters, and don't get credit for the amount of work and good deeds they do. Of course, you can find hypocrites in church every Sunday, as you can anywhere, but by and large, the positives far outweigh the negatives by anybody's measure.

Your sarcasm meter may need some fine tuning...

Might have something to do with the fact some people, in this thread even, think atheists are at heart bad people. The religious themselves labeled atheists as heartless evil people so when someone who is an atheist does something selfless, it's more surprising and newsworthy. I'd say christians should teach that everyone has good intentions at heart before being brainwashed, then it won't be such a surprise when humans act naturally humanistic towards one another

In order to start where you're wrong here I'm going to need you to explain how someone without religion, like our original ancestors, made it into tribes and evolved together helping one another without praising god.
