Climate change and fracking are responsible for the increase in earthquakes.

I'm joking, but the Cali legislature did ask that some geologist study the connection between fracking and earthquakes.

I figured. But this is the poli board. Can never be too careful. If there is evidence this is true. I'm going to start a fracking company near ,the bay area next to my coal furnace, and monster truck track. And if I can get my hands on some HAARP technology...kiss those mf'ers goodbye!!! Cali turns RED!!! New republican stronghold.

Reports made by scientists. Scientists are obviously dumb, biased, pinko, godless atheists. There's nothing to see here! Why would you waste this boards time with Science? We're all far too smart to give any credence to scientists.

we didn't abandon NO & it doesn't matter to the country at all, so I think we'll keep L.A. for the long haul.

how would this country make it without LA, Oakland, Compton and San Fran

I dislike the area myself due to the vast amount of idiots, but don't be so ignorant to think that a major city or two of that size getting leveled wouldn't have a negative affect on our economy.

Addition by subtraction? We could certainly recover. It wouldn't be as bad a losing Nebraska for instance.

The problem is that places like LA are a time bomb. There will be a big earthquake one day that will cause major devastation, we just don't know if that is tomorrow or in 100 years. Honestly, now that we know the dangers of certain areas, we need to make a lot better choices on where to build. I live in NOLA, but this place will be beachfront property when I die. We need to look at the longevity of certain places we want to build at, and understand the consequences.

Also, screw living in Manhattan. Imagine what would happen in the event of a real disaster there. Why people are still living in dense urban areas doesn't make sense to me.

If you are the Mayor (or the Governor), do you order an evacuation?

Where are you gonna evacuate 18 million people to, and how do you move them quickly in a way that won't become the mother of all clusterfricks?

The ice storm in Montreal in 1998 was pretty bad. Imagine parts of NY being without power for weeks, or months.

Very shallow earthquakes, and not in the same ballpark as a San Andreas quake, but... LINK

Keep dreaming.

The next time an entire city the size of New Orleans is destroyed by a tornado and BILLIONS of tax payer dollars have to be spent to rebuild it, you let me know. In the mean time, I'll continue to pay my home owners to make sure you don't have to pay for my choice to live here.

Most of our tech innovation comes from the Bay area.
