Is it legal for Obama to sell guns to drug dealers?

I don't think it's a question of legality as much as the fact that Obama armed the cartels causing so much violence on our southern border. It was a colossally stupid thing to do...especially in conjuction with Washington's "do nothing" attitude towards border security.

That ethics unit is a state funded program to investigate state wide issues. Perry is responsible for ensuring state programs are effectively and properly run. Its Travis County's problem that they have resisted attempts to pull the program up to a state org level.

The Public Integrity Unit is a Travis County entity, its not part of the state government.

Know how I know you've never been to a gun show? Because they RUN BACKGROUND CHECKS. Some shows go as far as getting someone pre-cleared when they enter so that they can make any purchase they want without having to wait on the Feds.

The "gun show loophole", as it is referred to, actually refers to private sales where the individuals know each other and would have an idea of whether someone would pass a background check.

They take state funds.

Well he aint guilty until AFTER a trial finds him guilty - so your statement doesn't make sense.

You are being pedantic, but I have a slow day so I will respond.

No, a person is either guilty or innocent of a crime. A trial "finds" them guilty; it does not create the situation to come about which a person is guilty. In other words, a court recognizes guilt.

Of course you have believe in an objective truth to follow that line of reasoning.

False. And the issue at hand is over state funding.

Then state funding being removed shouldnt be a problem.

this only works if it doesn't linger. this sh*t could drag out for a year or more, well into the start of primary season

I would hope Perry has already got his lawyers lined up.

First order of business: file a motion to dismiss on grounds that the Governor can veto ANY legislation for ANY reason (short of bribery, which isn't the case here).

If denied, announce ready for trial. Put the Travis County DA on the defensive (they brought the charges, they should be ready to present their "evidence").

I can't imagine that they would want it going to trial because of discovery alone...but then again, if they are as incompetent as they seem...

If he did the crime, he should do the time in a timely manner. If the law is wrong, then it best get gone...you know, by amending it in the legislature or striking it down in the courts.

The rule of law is it is a crime in Texas to coerce a public official in the exercise of her duty. Doesn't matter if they are a heinous DWI convict - no such exception is provided. If PErry gets off it will be because a judge rules the law unconstitutionally vague (it is vague). HE has clearly violated the letter of that law in broad daylight - but is the law a proper law?

So you're all about the law now? You unfailingly support a president that picks and chooses which laws he will execute based on his personal feelings about them. As they say, when the law's on your side, argue the law. When it's not, pound the message boards.

As for Perry, if he broke a law, he should be punished accordingly, as soon as he can move through the bowels of the justice system. It's not that hard.
