Can you give me a quick run down on Afghanistan/Taliban situation?

For idiots like me, I never ever really followed politics til now, and I figured it would be a good idea to do so, and I can say with this Taliban situation going on, I am honestly clueless what's going on and what led to this.
Can you guys who know more than me give me a quick rundown with what went down and what yall think ends up happening from this?

Osama Bin Laden is Al-Queada who has ties to the Taliban. AQ kills anyone and everyone not affiliated with Sunni Islam. Taliban was there to keep "foreign invaders" out and mostly only goes after military. 9/11 happened, we thought our military was only going to go after OBL and AQ, but ended up getting in a ground war with Taliban.
After nearly 20 years Trump wants us out, most of us feel he'd have withdrawn non military and big military equipment prior to troops withdrawing instead of like Biden who withdrew troops but left non military. The Afghan army who sides more with Taliban than America obviously, surrendered and now we are here.

Airport is still operational. From everything I've read, Taliban has not yet interfered with our evacuation efforts (which was their agreement). Reported gunfire all around, but that is believed to be celebratory gunfire.
