So I'm listed as an independent, but have never voted democratic in my life. The reason I'm listed as such is because I disagree with some ideas of the republicans but almost every r idea of the democrats. I vote republican for conservative fiscal issues I agree with. My coworker, strong lib, feels that because I disagree with gun control laws I shouldn't vote republican. I try to explain to her that I will never agree 100 percent with everything a party or candidate says. I'm against semis, but pro life. I could go on and on.

Long story short, do you agree with everything your party stands for?

For the record I'm not educated on guns at all. I'm not sure I understand the difference between the guns so that's why I don't vote based on gun laws. I just know assult guns being sold to the public bothers me.

So you want only police to be armed with semi automatic pistols and I have to defend my family with a Derringer?

By semi-automatic do you mean my Marlin Model 60 or my son's Beretta 3901? What about a Kimber .45 Two Tone, or Browning A-5?

For the record, I'm not exactly sure what I feel about certain guns being sold to the public. I don't vote based on that because of my lack of knowledge on the subject.

Pretty much the same for me. But they haven't been very fiscally conservative lately. And it is beginning to annoy me how adulterous they are with large corporations and moneyed interests.

You can of course be against one or several or many issues of the party for whom you normally vote and still consider yourself a member of that party. I am fairly socially liberal (or at least, used to be what was a social liberal about five years ago) and am probably a little more internationalist than most conservatives, but I'd still consider myself a conservative.

W/R/T to semi-auto guns, I just don't think that's feasible whatsoever. Semi-autos are probably 80+% of all weapons in America. You'd have a revolt (a real revolt) if the government tried to take away all semi-autos.

I also share your concern on guns, and it is perfectly acceptable regardless what people on here say.

Unless you believe in "single cause voting", then yes, you can.

That said, I'm curious as to your exact issue with them? Are you saying we should limit weapons to bolt-action rifles, pump shotguns and revolvers?

I'm not dismissing your view, but I am genuinely curious as to why you have this stance.

I also identify as an independent specifically because I don't agree with with enough of what either party stands for, and certainly not what they actually do.

I'm a conservative person. I lean more to republican ideals than democrat ideals. I don't think a true conservative republican would support a restriction on semi-auto guns. A .45 with 7 round capacity is still semi-auto. You'll end up only being allowed to have single shot .22s like back in the Wild West while our government and criminals have high capacity semi-auto and auto weapons. Negative.

Read previous post. Not educated on guns. I'm all for hand guns to protect yourself and hunting guns to hunt. My problem comes with ar15s and guns like that.

Hello! I'm all for gun rights and being able to protect yourself but I can stomach automatic assault rifles being banned from the public and only being allowed to the military. I can live with that.

Sorry dude, no disrespect, but your OP shows lack of knowledge on subject. There are many types of semi-auto guns.. pistols, even shotguns. I assume you are talking "assault style" rifles with large magazines?

That said, you are fully within your right to be against them. I support the 2nd amendment fully and want as much firepower as I can legally own..

As much as I respect the police, they are unable to be everywhere all the time, so therefore I take responsibility for my own self defense and my families. The bad guys are not going to care if the gun they are using is illegal or not.. so therefore I want to ensure I have equal to superior firepower if needed.

concern on guns

"Concern" is not the same thing as restricting entire classes of weapons - essentially those best suited for self-defense and other constitutional rights.
